In June 2008 I purchased my first Honda, a 2008 Honda Fit Sport. I was replacing a 1996 Sable which had been totalled by a deer the previous month. I have a 60 mile round trip daily commute. Safety, reliability, and fuel economy were my major stipulations. I did a lot of on-line research before going to any dealerships. The fact that Consumer Reports had evaluated this model as a Best Buy was a big point for me.
The first thing that struck me about the Honda Fit was how roomy it is and how large the windows are. Visibility is wonderful. My husband is 6'2" and has plenty of leg and headroom, both as the driver or passenger. At 5'7" my sister has had plenty of room in the back seat.
The hatchback is more than ample for groceries and normal shopping trips. However, if you need to move or haul something large, the back seats (one or both) fold perfectly flat and the storage space is amazing. Another interesting feature is that the front seats can also be folded perfectly flat. In an emergency, I could actually lie down and sleep!
It has a five star crash test rating, with side and front airbags. I've driven in all kinds of weather including snow and black ice and the Honda Fit holds the road. I was a little concerned about how it would handle in the wind as it is a little on the boxy side and higher profile than my sedan was, but that hasn't been a problem either.
I bought the Honda Fit Sport model to get a few extra bells and whistles. The Sport model gave me 14" tires, fog lamps, cruise control, the sporty little spoiler, and a shift option. It also has a stereo, a CD player and an mp3 jack.
The dash features are easy to read. There are two easy to use trip odometers and an oil life monitor. There is also a tire monitoring system that lets you know if your tire pressure needs adjusting. Being a 4 cylinder it's not a powerhouse, but it accelerates reasonably and will cruise at 75 mph with no trouble at all. I like being able to monitor RPM's to help with fuel efficiency. My driving is probably 60/40 highway/city and I average 38 mpg. To date I have put 22,000 miles on it.
It's hard to come up with any cons for the Honda Fit Sport! I miss having an arm rest between the two front seats. The roof spoiler makes it awkward to thoroughly clean the rear window. It would be nice if it had a larger gas tank (only 10 gal capacity).
Overall, I am completely satisfied and happy with my Honda Fit Sport. I have recommended it to friends, family and total strangers and I will continue to do so. The fact that it's also a sporty looking vehicle was just icing on the cake.
