Honda EX - 2004 —
I researched this car extensively prior to purchasing. Safety was my top priority as I had been rear-ended three times. The Honda Pilot has the 5 star safety ratings that makes me feel secure. It has 5 star frontal and 5 star side impact ratings. It stops when I need it to stop, even in the snow. It goes when I need it to go, even on ice. It has anti-lock brakes and traction control. It has on the fly 4 wheel drive which means I don't have to push any buttons or get out of my car and do anything to my wheels. I was recently in another car accident where another suv t-boned me. The insurance adjuster raved about my car and pointed out the safety features and explained how my car did as it was built to do. I don't think I can stress enough how safe I feel in this car!
One of the great perks of the Honda Pilot is that it drives like a car. It has the maneuverability of a compact car. I can make u-turns with one hand. Three point turns are a thing of the past. It's a very smooth ride.
Another great aspect of this car is that it holds 8 people. It has the optional third row seat that hides on my trips to Costco. Even with 8 people in the car, it doesn't feel like you're driving a boat.
Speaking of the 2nd row of seats, you still have a lot of leg room back there. Also, there's a separate temperature control for your comfort. You also get your own cup holders on the side of the doors. My daughter's car seat goes in the middle of the 2nd row of seats and we can still seat two adults on either side comfortably. Did I mention that the 2nd row of seats reclines? If you're ever on a road trip and get stuck in the back seat, don't fret! It's quite comfortable and roomy.
I'm not a very tall woman. Okay, I'm short. But, I don't feel swallowed up in this car. It doesn't feel like a tank and it doesn't feel like I'm driving my mommy's car. My driver's seat adjusts up or down and tilts back or front with the push of a button. I can see over the dashboard with room to spare.
I gas up once a week. I can go 300-350 miles on an 18 gallon tank depending on the weather and driving conditions. That's very important to me because I have so many other things to do besides frequenting gas stations.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this car. If money were no object in the purchase of a car, I'd still pick this one. My friends have other pricey suvs and their poor children have to sit indian style in the back seat. They don't have the third row. Their cars drive funny, like they were lifted and react to every touch of the steering wheel. You feel every bump in the road and can tell where they made repairs. Their cars also cost about 10 to 20 thousand dollars more than mine. My car is a 2004 and still going strong. It still looks cute, too!
