Homeschooling Review Summary

Education is a hotly debated topic and everyone seems to have the perfect solution to improve academic excellence among America’s youth. One alternative that is gaining more and more adherents is Homeschooling. Proponents of homsechooling instead of traditional schooling point out that homeschooling allows parents and children to work at their own pace and it helps protect the young student from public school pressures. On the downside, opponents of homeschooling stress the lack of socialization and the organizational effort on the part of parents that is necessary to make homeschooling work. Reviewers point out that homeschooling was “One of the Best Experiences of My Life”, but also that “It Takes a Lot of Effort”. The debate is never ending with homeschooling, but it is certainly a Misc Education alternative worth considering.

Before anyone puts down homeschooling, they should really look at the family and take a good hard look at public schools today. Both of our daughters have learning disabilities. They were in the public school for many years. The teachers were of little or no help to us or our daughters. We have now… read full review »

There is no one best way to educate children. Every child is different, and has different needs, learns differently, views the world differently. But school isn't just about learning a particular collection of knowledge or a set of skills. Business people in the marketplace say that we can't teach… read full review »

Discovered WAVA during homeschool search for my sixth grade boy.  WOW!!!  Free supplies and support is available, even though my local school district forgot we existed.  Best of all they system is based on ability not grade level.  They sent books, supplies and even a microscope!!  No more being taught to the test or the WASL for my boy.  He is actually learning again and not just memorizing for a test.  If you can't tell, I love… read full review »

I homeschool my son for more than two years and wouldn't change it for the world. It brought our whole family closer. But it requires a lot of efforts on your part and complete dedication to the whole process, never allow yourself the smallest excuses do not pay a proper attention to the smallest details. So far, my son even exceded my expectations. I will continue to be dedicated and will do the best for him to be… read full review »

Home schooling had been succesful in our family with 4 different children, mostly the early grades attended public or private school to get social development a push. Some others didn't,  all in all the 4 kids that graduated are doing very well. I to started my kids at home but with working 2 jobs and a non participating wife are kids went to public school starting in late elementary and they to are doing fine. I think a lot of it is the parents involvment, it's true don't make your kids strangers make them the very reason you exist on this planet, for it may very well be that's why some… read full review »

Homeschooling was first brought to my attention by my daughter's nurse. Since early childhood my daughter has had health issues that made attending public school a true hassle. When her nurse questioned had we ever considered homeschooling I immediately went to the library and checked out many books on homeschooling. I also searched the internet for anything associated with homeschooling. I thought it seemed like something interesting and maybe just what we needed to give my daughter the eduation she needed. I found a homeschooling group in my area and called them. I paid the membership fees… read full review »

Homeschooling my two youngest sons was one of the highlights of my life. My older three children all attended and graduated from public school. My next to youngest I taught at home from 6th grade through12th and graduated him. My youngest son I taught from 5th grade until 10th grade. (He asked to go back to school in 11th to socialize, meet girls, etc. and we agreed. He made National Honor Society in 11th grade and had no problems readjusting to public school. He scored high on his ACT test and now has been asked to apply for West… read full review »

Homeschooling is more than academic advancement. That happens just because it is so hard to avoid learning in the real world. School is more than academics, too. It's a place where children lose their innocence. A place where they are offered drugs, bullied, passed along year after year whether they comprehend what is being taught or not. A place where very few adults care about them. A place where kids learn that to get ahead, they have to flatter, cheat, lie, etc. — Homeschool so kids learn how to really learn. Homeschool so they don't get shot by a crazy with a gun. Homeschool… read full review »

I have several examples where home schooling has really proved to be the best option for some kids.  I went to home school for preschool through 3rd grade.  When I got to the private school in 4th grade I was really advanced in comparisson.  I was reading at a high school level, had already gone through two of the text books and was really eager to go back to home schooling.  I was unable to do that, but the experience in home school gave me the educational advantage and the opportunity in the private and public schools gave me the emotional and communicative sides… read full review »

After years of trying to work with the public school as it relates to my now 18 year old son, I finally sent him away to a speciality boarding school, he was picked up at home, by a transporter in the early am and spent 12 months away from home.  During the time he was in his boarding school he was able to complete almost 2.5 years of his high school education, something the public schools and myself failed to have the key to.  He now is completing his senior year online with Keystone, a resource that was recommend by my hair stylist's assistant, she is 17 years… read full review »

Homeschooling is a wonderful way to educate children. It is also not the end all to educating children. The fine line that divides academic educator to parent to child can have both positive as well as negative effects. Some children do not respond well to a parent as academic educator. When does the parent end and educator begin? It is not only the children who find the lines blurred. Parents can have difficulty shifting the boundaries of acceptable parental limitations and educator parameters. Homeschooling is not a fit for everyone and should never be thought of as the only method… read full review »

We used Colorado Online virtual academy and they use K-12 material. They were great for one exception. K-12 is NOT disabled accessible for those that use Jaws or Dragon Dictate. I had a great time working with my kids and this online virtual school was awesome unless you need special computer programs to work with K 12 's program..K-12 believes allowing their program to interface with others would allow people to abuse their program and break the copyright… read full review »

I believe that this idea would be a perfect solution for people who have small children in public schools. Perhaps a good alternative to pricey public schools. It also takes care of a lot of problems facing children today that make them not want to go to school, it would take away a lot of thier anxiety, fears and terror that we don't always hear about regarding… read full review »

I have some concerns about public schools. They are: drugs, peer pressure and quality of education. Basic Home School Education could be a good option for some parents. Parents may be traveling a lot or just do not trust public schools. I think parents shuold be disciplened enough, educated and have some experience in kids education. — … read full review »

I think home school is good for students who have a structured academic as well as social program. Home schooling takes away many distractions and allows the child to focus better. Also there is no knowledge gap and the student can learn at his/her own pace. That sudent does not have to be slowed by other or left behind for that… read full review »
