Homeschooling is a fantastic way for children to learn beyond the confines of the classroom.  It can be safer than many public and some private school programs.  Being an educator, I have worked with children who have come from homeschool situations.  Hence my sentence, dedication is everything.  If parents take the job of education seriously and have competent skills (not education, skills) the children can learn well.  However, I have had students who had no comprehension in the third grade and lacked the basic math skills because the parent didn't know what to do, was working outside the home and had a lot of work that had to be accomplished each day.  On the other hand, I have worked with students who had a dedicated program, a time established that the parents seldom allowed to be interrupted and they took their work very seriously.  The children flourished.  If you are considering homeschooling, look seriously at your lifestyle and truly determine which of these parents you reflect.  The decide if homeschooling is right for your child and you.

Again, this is not against homeschooling. I just mentioned one instance where, when it was not the home priority the child struggled unnecessarily. The idea was to encourage homeschooling parents to take it seriously, not to prove the school to be the better situation!

Please understand that I think homeschooling is great when it is done correctly! When the parents make the education a priority, the kids excel. When they do not, the kids suffer. Schools have their problems too and this is not intended to imply they are the perfect choice. Once again, when the teacher makes the education of the child important, the child does much better. If you notice the tone of the article, it is positive about homeschoolers when the parents care!

I have had students who had no comprehension in the third grade and lacked the basic math skills because the teachers passed them along without caring about comprehension. In schools.

I'm sorry you have been misinformed about homeschooled children. They actually have better socialization skills than any other educated students. As far as being organized it seems to me that they far better organized than most mainstream adults. How else can a family produce such wellmannered, intelligent, smart, successful, bright, loving, caring, understanding, considerate, well spoken, polite, respectful towards others, peaceful, nurturing, honest children? They can't unless they are truly homeschooled.
