When I discovered last year that my 4th grader had no idea about the various states in the US, and that her teacher was more worried about texting on her cell phone and playing on the computer instead of teaching the class, I decided to homeschool. I now homeschool all of my 3 children and will do so until it's time for them to go to High School.
Homeschool gives you a chance to see what your children actually know and what they don't. You control what they learn and what they don't. You don't need a lot of money to homeschool. You will spend actually less than what you would if they went to public school. You don't have to worry about buying your children new clothes for school. You don't have to worry about your children being bullied, beat up, shot, initiated into a gang, etc. Because you are there, being a role model, a teacher, and a parent.
I know personally, that homeschool works if the parent is willing to teach and learn along with their child. My youngest who is a 1st grader could not read at the beginning of the homeschool year, now, she is reading 2nd grade books, because of my way of teaching. All of my children and learning above the level that the state says they should be.
