Soothes babies to sleep at home or when traveling

5

Excellent combination of sound machine with projector that displays three different moving images on a wall or ceiling. Timed auto-shutoff and the ability to keep on all night are great features. We prefer to run the sound machine with projector on all night, which has helped to distract a wakeful baby and encourage sleep again. Works so well at home that we use it for travel to bring comfort and familiarity to any environment. The projection options include cows jumping over the moon, monkey and bird jungle-theme, as well as undersea creatures like fish, whales and an octopus. All images are cartoonish/hand-drawn and enjoyable for little ones. The sound options include heat-beat, ocean, rain, and nursery songs. Ocean and rain are our family favorites, as they offer the "white noise" quality that quickly soothes. Since owning these machines thru three children over the past 5 years and loving the product so much, we regularly give this as part of our baby gifts to friends when they welcome new little ones into their families. It makes for a wonderful shower gift or welcome baby gift, and is often overlooked on registries, yet appreciated by all parents we have given them to. Don't hesitate to try it!

Great for nursery

4

We have been using this product in my son's nursery for about 9 months. There are a few features that I love. I like that is plugs in- too many baby products these days eat through batteries. I like that there are interchangable disks, so your child can view different scenes. My son loves the fish one, and gets upset when we change it, but when he was younger we changed the disks all the time. They always caught his attention. I like that there are different songs. Right now, we use the lullabies, but I can see this product growing with him, as we can use the nature sounds when he gets older. The adjustable volume control is great, although you do have to turn the volume up some to cover the noise of the projector. I also like the timer feature, we usually set it for 1 hour, by then he's usually asleep. The only thing I don't like is the noise of the projector. It is quite loud. It has also begun slowing down and speeding up sporadically, which I guess is due to daily use.

Homedics sound spa helps my toddler sleep

4

My son loves his homedics sound spa! He especially loves the fact that he gets to choose between three different slides that then project above his bed. It comes with three differnet slides: one with monkeys, one with cows jumping over the moon and then another with fish. It also comes with six different sound options but i prefer the rain noise as white noise. We travel with this sound spa which makes it so much easier to sleep for everyone as it helps drowned out all the noise at hotels and it brings a little bit of home with us for my son. the only problem that we have had with the machine is that is stopped spinning the slides for the projector for a couple of months but my son was still able to see a still projection of the slides until one night it just started running again. i don't think its a problem with the machine as is the fact that my son wants it to run all night long and all during nap so on most days the poor thing runs 12-15 hours in a 24 hour period! but he loves it and it helps him sleep at night so that is priceless! it does come with a timer if you can get your child trained to be okay with out it:) the other con is that the motor is a bit noisy - but still worth it!

Compact Relaxation

I am glad I have read some of the other customer reviews on this product because I'm seeing that many people have an issue with the projector. three noises and three melodies are of decent quality. I thought "Twinkle..." melody would sound irritating, like it usually does, but it actually is fine on this unit. I had to return the first unit and order a different one, as the first one died for no noticeable cause after being switched on briefly a couple of times. I suspect it was killed by a small power surge, so I'd recommend plugging this into a surge protector strip. Another thing is that, when I was testing this unit, I could hear background talking while playing any of the sounds. I first thought I am hearing a factory tour, which was accidentally recorded at the factory during recording the sounds. But in another room the sounds disappeared. So I think it was picking up radio signals. Hey, you are getting a radio receiver as a bonus! Some people report the projector noise. I found it unnoticeable. User interface is not the most excellent but controllable. No need to comprehend instructions.

Peaceful Sleep

I recieved this as a gift at my baby shower. I had never heard of the Homedics - Sound Spa Lullaby Relaxation Machine, and honestly hadn't even thought of using any projection mobile for our child, but my gifter raved about this machine, as did several other moms in thr room. The Homedics - Sound Spa Lullaby Relaxation Machine has been amazing! My son loves this machine. It has 3 scene disks and six different sounds to choose from. I like that we can place it just about anywhere in the room and he can still see it. I was so sad when our first machine stopped rotating after a few months, but the projection still worked for about a year. I purchased another Homedics - Sound Spa Lullaby Relaxation Machine to have as a back up. We pulled it our when the projection on the first machine died. I was sad when the rotation on the second lasted only  afew days, but my son doesn't seem to mind if the image moves or not. It still makes bed time so much easier. The timer is great, so you don't have to leave the machine on all night. It's been our saving grace at bed time!

Great white noise for second baby!

4

This sound machine has worked great for us.  With a small house and a bedroom near the front of our house, we knew our baby would need some help with drowning out background noises while sleeping.  We have used the rain sound since we got the machine, and it helps our baby sleep while we go about our lives.  My four year old can play without whispering, and I can do the laudry during nap time. This machine is capable of projecting images on the ceiling and has several sounds from which to choose.  However, I have only used the rain sound function so I don't know how well the other features work.  When I was researching this product, I noticed some negative reviews of the projector mechanism.  Since we don't use it, it is not a problem for us.  We have not noticed any sound loops for the rain sound.  One thing I really like about this machine, and the reason I ended up choosing it, is that you can play the sounds continuously without using the timer feature.  I wanted to make sure that baby was awakened by the machine ending. Overall, great product for the price!

Pays for itself in the first afternoon nap.

We were really lucky when our 3 month old started willingly going to bed, wide-awake, but when he was getting drowsy.  The challenge was in getting him back down after midnight and 4 AM feedings.  My mom sent us this as a gift and I thought, "I don't want to spoil him or get him attached to something," that resolve was out the window when he was fussing in his crib at 4 AM.  I set the sounds to "ocean" and turned on the projector and he was happy as a clam, cooing for 20+ minutes until he fell asleep.  It even helps him sleep longer as he's started sleeping a 7-8 hour stretch! In the afternoons, I turn the sounds on to help drown out the sounds going on in our ranch home.  He goes down like a champ the moment I turn the machine on. Thank you, Mom!

A great concept, however, not great quality

3

Let me start off by saying that my daughter still uses the Homedics Sound Spa Lullaby Relaxation Machine every night for the sounds, however, the projection stopped working after about a year of use. This really upset my daughter, and we can't find another one in the store to replace it with. My husband has tried taking it apart and working on it to no avail. My daughter actually dropped it recently and the projection started working, but it made noises like it was shorting out when I turned the sounds on at the same time, so for now we only use it as a sound machine. The concept is great though. When the projection did work, my daughter loved it. She would watch the projection and eventually soothe herself and fall asleep on her own every night. It has 6 sounds one it; rain, ocean, cradle, twinkle, heartbeat, and rock-a-bye. There are 2 projections to choose from: 'The cow jumped over the moon' and a sea creature scene. When it works, the projection rotates. There is also a timer on this sound machine.

Best Investment for Parents of Newborns

5

I read about this white noise lullaby machine on some mommy web sites when my son was a newborn.  It was humorously referred to as the "baby crack machine!"  We were really struggling with getting our son to nap during the day and this sound spa was a life saver for all of us!  It helped us all to sleep better!  My son is now more than two years old and we still turn it on at night to help drown out noise from the other rooms and/or outside.  It's really inexpensive too, so it's hard not to justify this one.  There are a lot of useless baby items out there, but this is not one of them.  It comes with six settings - three lullabies, one ocean sound, one rain sound, and a heartbeat.  My son now loves to turn on the lullabies just to listen to during the day.  The projector is a fun feature and could be used as a nightlight too, though we haven't used it very much.  The three little discs can be stored right inside the machine so you won't lose them.

Still using a year later

When my daughter was born, she only wanted to be held while she slept. After the first month or two, this got a little old. In addition, any noise she heard woke her up. After searching for answers online, this sound machine was suggested by many mothers on a parenting message board, labeling it the "baby crack machine". It works both ways because it puts me to sleep as well! My daughter started sleeping more soundly with it on, and the projector was nice so her room wasn't completely dark and we could see her without turning on a light. We still use it to this day for naps and bedtime. My daughter loves to watch the projector. The machine is relatively inexpensive considering it has lasted quite a while already, and we will continue to use it for years to come. I have even considered buying one for my bedroom, but I think my husband would make fun of me. If you are having problems getting your baby to sleep or if they need absolute quiet to stay asleep, I recommend this. Added 9/23/10: 2-3 times I have touched the machine while it was on and could hear a mans voice. The first time it freaked me out pretty good. The second time I was trying to do it on purchase and searched the radio to find something sounding similar. I did find it was somehow picking up an AM station (reading the Bible, of all things). Mystery solved, but freaky none-the-less. It only does it when I am physically touching the machine, so it is still useable.
