I have a home-made firepit where I cook any- and every-thing. First of all, I love to build the wood fire and smell the smoke therefrom. Then when the coals are just right, I love to cook over the wood fire. I use different types of wood for cooking, depending on what is available. Pecan wood, oak wood, orange wood. The key is not to start cooking until the coals are right. When they are just right, I cook steak, chicken, vegetables--whatever is on the menu. My family enjoys the fire and my cooking, so we do this often.
