I use my husband for yard work :) hehehehe Seems to me he works out better than the herd of goats - cheaper to feed too.
Alright seriously we'll generally fertilize with a weed n feed and that's usually it. He prefers to use the ones that attach right to your hose. I will have to buy a new hose this year though as the neightbor got it with the snow blower this winter. Then it's just a good ole cheap sprinkler and we're good.
I'd rather not use chemicals, but we have some very invasive plants in the yard. I've been fighting some icky bamboo for 9 yrs now. So, Round Up is my friend. It works well most of the time.
I've used a Weed Eater riding lawn mower for over 7 years and it's done the job. We've been through several string trimmers--ugh. I tend to avoid using the push mower--I'd rather ride or trim with the trimmer than to push that thing!
We've had lots of invasive plants trying to take over from all sides and I finally resorted to Ortho.
