Hey, the State of Washington just passed a non-phosphate detergent law and there is some controversary, cause some people think "green" phosphate-free detergents don't work as well, particularly in hard water...soooo...some folks are actually driving to other states to smuggle "phosphate" detergents in like an illegal substance!! I wanted to "put my 2 cents in"....Wake up, people!! Adding just a 1/2 cup of vinegar to your rinse container in your washer or dishwashers will get hard water residue off....try it, you'll like it. : ) Anyone from Washington State out there heard about this "smuggling" yet? I'd like to know what you think, check-out my blog Natural Cleaning Product Reviews at greenkeen.blogspot.com

I support your position and commend you for taking it.

You're right about the vinegar. White vinegar is a many purpose cleaner. I hadn't heard about the smuggling yet. What next - road blocks?  These people aren't helping anything, just adding to the problem not the solution. Borax helps in the laundry too. A good booster. Amazing what people will do. Instead of spending the money on gas for the smuggling escapades, they can  use it on healthy green products like Seventh Generation (with the added bonus of no animal testing)!     : )

What about products like Purex or Arm and Hammer Essentials/Naturals. they don't have the phosophates and Arm and Hammer is even noted on the label by the EPA as a environmentally friendly product. So silly, all those other products give my kids the hives -- not to mention what they do to the environment.

Soap Nuts is another product that should be investigated they are natural and can be used many times before they are thrown out.  see Maggies Pure Land and www soapnutinashell.com for more information.  This product can be used also medicinally for psoriasis etc.
