I currently own a Holmes 1Touch space heater. Let me tell you this is the best heater, as far as space heaters go, that I have ever used. It's great because it has 5 settings from 60 to 80 degrees. And you can choose a low/high power setting. It also has an oscillating feature, so that if you wanted it to circulate around the room it could.
It also has a safety feature that if the unit overheats it shuts off automatically. When I am shopping for space units this is the number one thing I look for in a heater, it's safety features. I have small nieces and nephews & I want to make sure that they do not get harmed, while I have my heaters in use. They are so compact that you can tuck them out of the way of running little feet. Also the design is contemporary, not like your back in the day heaters, that were made of metal construction and the heating coils could be seen, and dangerous, if you had a small child around. This unit is so safe and the heating coils are tucked far back, so prying little hands can't get to them. Even if you were to place your hand in front of it, you wouldn't get burned, because the heat coming out the front isn't hot enough to cause a serious burn. Now try that with those old metal clunkers, where the heating coils were too close to the grill.
This heater heats really well, even when the temperature in my place goes down to 30 or 40 degrees. It heats a small area of about 10 x 12 in about 15 - 20 minutes. Usually once the room is heated, I adjust the heat to a lower temp to keep it comfortable, or in some cases I can shut it off for a couple of hours.
When I needed to get another heater, I tried another brand (which I had heard of the brand, didn't know they made heaters though), but I was disappointed as it didn't work nearly as well as my Holmes. I was upset that I just didn't go ahead and get the Holmes that I saw sitting right next to it, but this unit was a little cheaper. I guess I should have just spent the extra couple of bucks and gotten a brand I knew was reliable.
Anyway, this is a good heating mechanism for the money. It really is low-cost and runs between $25 & $35. The unit will last you at least 3 years or more, and that's good if you are using it heavy duty, as I do.
