I never buy gift wrap.I find it to be a waste of money.I recycle by using newspapers as gift wrap. That way I save money and recycle. If you think about it no one cares about how the gift looks anyways and then I can take the money that I save and buy a little extra something for myself and I am saving the earth too.Who else thinks this is a good idea or does this as well?

I have been doing this for years but I only used the comics I just recently started to shop the after Christmas sale for gift bags and boxes to reuse so all I have to do is fill them and go no more hours of wrapping

As a matter of fact, a LOT of people care about how gifts look.  I have seen cute presents for kids wrapped in comic strips but I would not be overly-thrilled if someone gave me a gift wrapped in the "Help Wanted" section.  There are other ways to recycle newspaper.

I do not.  We have taken to using gift bags as much as possible because those can be recycled.  And otherwise it is not like we are wrapping a ton of gifts each year so we don't go through a ton of paper.  A few rolls will last me years.

As for recycling newspaper - while I HATE when I get a newspaper.  I do not ask for them, they just randomly leave them in our driveway - at the very bottom - where we drive over them.  I HATE that.  Newspapers go directly from the curb to my recycle bin.  Same with phone books.  I wish they would stop delivering this crap that no one wants.

As for other things - I use junk mail papers up when I work on my scrapbook.  I always need a backing for my spray glue so that it doesn't get anywhere.  Those little junk mail booklets work great for that.

I would not like getting a gift wrapped in newspaper.  I have used the comics once or twice when my children were small and made it cute with lots of colorful ribbons but that was only appropriate then.

I do recycle wrapping bags and even nice wrapping paper [save it and then use it for smaller gifts]. I also recycle ribbon. My gifts always look nice and not recycled. I think the presentation says as much as the gift does.

Ok,Intresting. Thanks for everyones point of view and I appreciate them and everyone is entitled to thier own oppinion.I have never been one to carefully cut away my gift wrap so I could save it and not the gift so I dont really get it.My kids and my firends are more concerned with what they got and not what the gift wrap looked like but I guess everyone is different.Gift bags are cool and maybe I will use one sometime.I definately would not hold it against someone for what type of paper they used to gift wrap my gift as long as i got one.Why should I spend $10.00 on something I basically can get for free but thats just me.Maybe this year I too will try something new and cut away my nice gift wrap and fold it up and save it for next year, good idea.

I'm glad you like the idea. You can recycle other things as gift wrap also. Consider using old movie posters to wrap DVDs [add a popcorn pack to the ribbon], maps to wrap car cleaner sets [make a car tag and attach it to the package] or use fashion magazine pages to wrap beauty/bath sets [add pretty gold ribbons]. With a little creativity, recycling can be cool...

Thanks to me that is very creative.Man didnt know I was gonna get burned at the stake for asking a question.I am not saying that your post botherd me but I found it kind fo odd that people seemed to be a little bit judgemental over a simple question.I do appreciate your post and stuff and I am just starting to not be to sure about this site because blogging is what I do.I di it all the time and I really thought this was a teriffic site but I am not to sure because the reality is alot of people have not liked some of my post for whatever reason and I have never judged no one on their point of view.

Have done that in the past. Now the only thing the grandchildren want is money. There just aren't many gifts now.

I love to create the wrapping using a glue gun. You can do such fantastic decorating using about anything. It's my creative side at work. LOL!

When we used to subscribe to the local newspaper I would use the comics as gift wrap (it's fun to color in the black and white ones). Also, many papers will often give away (sometimes sell) their "end" rolls of newsprint that cannot finish a run through the machine. I use these with the scrap ends of crayons between two sheets and ironed for beautiful one of a kind gift wrap as well. Used crayons can be picked up for free or low cost from garage sales and thrift stores.

Good idea!  I've seen cards made like that.

I've gotten the end rolls for my kids [Scout Troop too] to sponge paint or stamp and make their own paper.

I do many of the ideas listed here, but admit that I also use comics for wrapping children's presents (only) with some ribbon and bows it can still look cute.  Another way I wrap gifts is to use shopping tote bags. Then people can use the tote bags later too. Good for the environment, Walmart bags are only .99 and are the perfect size. Tie the handles together and you are set.

Shredded magazine pages add colorful packaging to gift bags and baskets.

I save wrapping paper and greeting cards then using scrapbooking materials either scrapbook with them, make other greeting cards or cut them down to wrap something that is smaller.

We have also used paper bags from the grocery. Kids can stamp paint it add some glitter and it's perfect for wrapping paper.  And it's a cute kids touch to have something that they made. The grandparents on our end like it.

I think it's great that so many of us are being so green with our gifts.

I don't read the paper, but I do recycle my Christmas bags and I buy plain brown recycled paper bags for Christmas also.  Bags are convenient and less waste!

I don't do this. I am the worst wrapper ever, I just buy a ton of wrapping paper and just throw it on there and tape tape tape lol

I like the idea of using shredded paper as a filler.

Am I the only one getting ink all over her hands when handling the newspaper? The same thing happens when I rip open a newspaper anything. Not so much with the comics/shiny coupons, but the black and white part is messy!
