For the past 3 weeks, I've been staying at the Wyndham Garden Hotel and Resort in Boca Raton, (pka Holiday Inn). I hesitate to say I know this place inside and out, however, I do feel as though I can be a bit more objective than most due to the length of my stay.
According to hotel staff, the Wyndham Hotel changed its name, look at room layouts circa January 2009. Here is a brief description of what I've noticed while staying here:
ROOMS: The hotel beds are new and comfortable with pillow-top mattresses and fresh white linens. "Smart" chairs are located in most rooms which feature swivel desktop arm tables and power outlets built into the chair for easy laptop use. Larger individuals might feel a little cramped/confined in the chair. (My boyfriend is about 5'11", 180 lbs and is on the brink of feeling uncomfortable while surfing the web in the Smart Chair ). There is also a desk with an ethernet cable, but their wi-fi is so good here, you probably won't even need it. I loved the LG HDTV flat-screen and extensive channel line-up. To my understanding some rooms are pet-friendly and there are suites available which are perfect for 3 or more guests. Previous reviewer was right - walls are thin, but there's not much you can do about that. People around here are relatively quiet, anyway, so that hasn't been much of an issue. Beware of the air conditioning system, though - in some rooms the floor unit is unusually loud!
BATHROOMS: I'm pretty girly, so I was excited to find trial size shampoo bottles of the "Spa" line from Bath and Body Works. The sink and counter offer more than enough room to spread out your toiletries. i was not impressed with the toilets (sometimes you had to hold down the handle to get them to flush the whole way the first time) and the showers (goofy red/blue pattern on the tiles with older fixtures). Another thing I noticed was the lack of ample towel racks. There were 2 hooks on the door and that was about it. There's one full length mirror in the bathroom and one on the wall by the front door of the room. I love being able to see my entire outfit while getting ready.
STAFF: All super friendly. No complaints here.
SPECIAL FEATURES: Word on the street is Wyndham has a special "female travelers" wing for just ladies traveling alone for work! A limited supply of mini-fridges are available for delivery to your room, and one-cup coffee/tea brewers are provided with paper travel cups/lids. Bring your iPod if you have one! You can plug it in to the alarm clock/clock-radio to listen to some tunes. The pool area/courtyard is gorgeous. Get a room by the pool if you can. Bova Cucina is the on-site restaurant with the most wonderful staff and food. If you're nearby during lunch, grab the lunch buffet from 11:30-2:30 for some really healthy and tasty fare. Work stations with printers/copiers are available on the ground and 2nd floor(s). PLUS, (and this is the best part) there is a cafe' on the 2nd floor which serves STARBUCKS COFFEE from 7-10:30am. Amazing. Loved it.
Overall, I'd say the Wyndham is a great place to stay. It's right in the middle of some excellent restaurants and shopping plazas. Plus, it's only a 10 minute drive to the beach!
