To the Point

I've been using the Hoist 4600 Multi Station Gym for about 5 years now in Florida. There is a small fitness room in our condo. I love this machine. I target it for those who are not body builders but who want to work their muscles in an easy manner. Using a machine is the easiest way to work out and quite effective.

A Closer View

The new and at retail price is in the $7,000 range but since it's been around for awhile I found it on sale and used in the $2,000 range. Not a whole lot can go wrong with this machine. It' is great if you have a warranty but if you don't I can tell you that nothing has ever been wrong with the Hoist and in all these years of use there are no tears in the nicely padded vinyl that all the stations have. The warranty for home use for the frame is a lifetime warranty; 10 years for moving parts, paint, cables and upholstery. It comes with a large placard that visually shows you how to do each exercise.

This is called a four-station. One advantage to this is that more than one person can use it at a time. I've done that many times and don't even know someone else is using another station. This machine is large for a home coming in with a footprint if 11 feet by 6.5 feet so you won't be able to inconspicuously put this in a corner. You'll need a basement or a room that is designated to working out. A real advantage to this machine and to any that is multi systems is that it avoids having to have several pieces of equipment, dumbbells and barbells lying around.

The stations are:

The legs station where I do leg presses (If you want an explanation of any of these exercises, let me know.) and work my calves. It is a simple machine to use. I just put the pin in at the weight I want to use and the stack comes up.

There are actually two chest stations but one combines legs. The station with the pec dec machine (An exercise called flyes work your chest.) also has the leg extension for your upper thighs and the seated leg curl for the back of your thighs.

The vertical bench press station is very versatile. Not only can I do a vertical bench press but I can turn around and work the back of my shoulders. An attachment that I just clip to the cable allows me to work my abdominal area as well as my triceps.

The last station is also a compound one. It gives me the lat pulldown. The cable clip is on the top. I can actually attach a variety of items on this cable but it is most popular for the lat pulldown. However I can attach a triceps rope to the top and do triceps press downs here. The optional attachment here (Some of these features are optional but I would buy a piece of equipment without a biceps curl or leg extension feature.) is the bicep curl which I like but I can move around to an empty area and put a straight bar or any number of attachments on the lower cable and do bicep curls for example. I can also attach a strap to my ankle at this low clip and do seated rows for my back.

There are many more exercises that I do on this machine. It is very versatile, easy to use and fun. It is expensive at retail price but if you aren't into benches and dumbbells or individual pieces then find this at a bargain price. I think you'll love it.

Great review - lately I have trouble getting out of bed, and I KNOW I need to work out but it seems to be the last thing on my list :-(
