His Girl Friday 1940  — 

This is one of my favorite classic movies. Definitely in my top ten. The chemistry is great between Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell with dialogue that moves a mile a minute. They most certainly don't write scripts like this anymore. Although it was released in 1940, His Girl Friday it has stood the test of time. In fact I had the opportunity to watch it again last night and would gladly do it again - it's that good. From the crooked politicians to the reporters that will do anything to get the scoop and then twist the story to their own ends, this movie will have you laughing and chuckling while you reach for the remote to replay some snippet of dialogue that just wizzed by. Look for it in your TV listings as it pops up every so often, or rent it from your favorite video store.

I LOVE old classic films! Haven't seen this one in a long time. When I saw you had reviewed it I actually said, 'ahhhhhh'. I think I may even own this one. I have quite a few old videos. I think I'll go back through them all and see. Thanks for reminding me ;-)

I've seen this several times on lists of great reporter movies. I teach journalism (-: Haven't got my hands on it yet, but I really need to.

Yep the thinking seems to be dazzle them with CGI or explosives and to heck with a script. A few still shine through but many more could if they pay more attention to writing and less on fancy fillers. ;)

I agree! Not to wax nostalgic, but it seems too many movies these days are relying on effects rather than good old story telling or well written dialogue. Of course I don't mean to say that there aren't any gems showing up these days either.
