Hewlett Packard HP Pavillion DV6000 Laptop Review Summary

Hewlett Packard has sailed past Dell to become the world’s largest computer maker, and stellar reasonably priced produces like the HP Pavilion DV6000 Notebook might be one of the reasons why. Our community of reviewers overwhelmingly likes this stylish notebook lauding its portability, performance, and ease of use, among other features. However, some reviewers complained of the plethora of “throw-away” software HP includes with the unit as well as its short battery life. Built around the AMD Turion processor, the HP Pavilion DV6000 Noebook is shipped with Microsoft’s Windows Vista Operating System, up to 2.0GB of RAM, an NVidia graphics adapter, DVD-ROM drive, and wireless NIC. Our reviewers enthusiastically recommend this notebook computer lauding its reliability, performance, versatility and affordable price-point. Read what our reviews have to say about this product.

Here's an affordable, easy to use laptop that costs less than 800 bucks, and provides excellent value for the price. My wife and I use it for a variety of purposes, including graphic design, and are very happy with it.

I'm not sure if our laptop is more souped-up than the basic model (specs listed below),...

My husband has had this laptop for two years now and things keep breaking on it. A few months after he got it the DVD/CD rom needed to be repalced. The warranty covered it but the company kept trying to charge him almost $400 to repalce it. They wouldn't fix it until he paid it, this went on for about... review »

My Dell laptop had a major harddrive failure so a couple weekends ago my husband and I went shopping to find me a new one. We looked at all the different brands and they all seemed to come up short on harddrive space, memory or add ons except for the HP DV6000. I wasn't going to settle for less than 2GB of memory and had to have at least a 140 GB harddrive and the DV6000 had it. On top of that it has the built in webcam which I wanted so that I could chat with family and friends without always looking for my cam. We got such a great deal on these ($749 + $50 mail in rebate) that we bought... review »

s a student, obtaining a laptop was my ultimate goal earlier last year so that I could take notes faster in class, plus have access to a computer on the go in order to keep up with my homework. So I set out to get what I thought would be the ultimate "toy" that would help with not only homework, but on the road entertainment with a DVD player and a carry-with-me machine which houses the Sims families I play with on a regular basis.

After several days of researching the HP machines amongst the Sonys and several other brands I hadn't heard of before, I settled on the HP DV6626US PC Notebook. The...

This a good computer for basic use for the price (<$900). It is the HP Pavilion DV6000 with AMD Turion, 1.6 GHz and an Nvidia 6150 graphics card. I use it for web surfing, emails, IM's and creating documents and DVD's. It has the Vista operating system and I had to buy a new version of Office (word, excel, etc.) for this laptop. It came pre-loaded with some software I've found useful like moviemaker, windows DVD maker and Quicktime. I was able to quickly download some video from my digital movie camera (which is why I wanted a firewire port) and within a few hours had cut a DVD for friends. Very...

This is a horrible computer. It's had so many problems in the 7 months I've had it that I've lost count. The service is also terrible. I sent it in because the SERVICE ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM failed and I was told I'd have it back in 2 weeks. We are now going on the 7th week of waiting. The only thing good I can say is at least they call you on the day it's supppose to ship to tell you it's going to be 2 more weeks. I just bought my son a new laptop for graduation and I didn't even look at HP, went straight for the Dell's.

I've been a realtor for the last few years and finally had to break down and buy myself a laptop. I had a friend who worked with HP that helped me through the process. When it finally arrived, I was amazed at how fast it was! I don't really care for the HP control center but the new Internet Explorer is fantastic! I really couldn't be happier and I've been telling all of my colleagues about it. We've had 3 new agents purchase the same laptop already!

Was worried that I had bought a new computer and would not like Vista - So far it has been just a little confusing because I'm used to a lot more commands.  The HP is a brand I have come to trust over the years. The screen is very clear and easy to read. Am having a whole new learning experience. Now the grandkids tell me I'm "with it".  Any updates can only improve the preformance of this unit.

I bought the dv6000 in July and haven't had a problem with it. The laptop is as fast as it was before I loaded all my software onto it.

Shutting it down takes seconds and it powers up in just about the same time.

The screen is big and bright and there is even internet TV with classic TV shows you can watch within second of pressing a button. The problem is choosing a show- there are numerous choices.

I own the HP Pavilion dv6253cl. While it has served me well, it definitely was not worth the amount I paid for it. After having it for only 8 months, the battery life has dwindled down to less than an hour and a half, even with the screen dimmed all the way down. That is absolutely unacceptable. Also, my hard drive is starting to fail, with bad sectors showing up all around. I know how hard drives work and I NEVER move my laptop without putting it in sleep or hibernate (parking the hard drive read head) and yet this hard drive is still having problems. It is cheap, what can I say. Not to mention... review »

I got this computer after much consideration. I needed a computer that would be great for school work but would also handle my gaming needs. The graphics card and processor works great for data heavy applications as well as games like world of warcraft. The computer is also very lightweight compared to others. I can put it in my laptop slot in my bag, and even with other school books its not that heavy. The only gripe I have is the battery life isn't that great on the stock battery. I have to switch to very low power for it to last through a class period, unless I plug it in. The media hot keys... review »

My Mom got this for herself...well, it didn't work out that way. I use it way more than she does. Shedidn't know if she would like a laptop when she got it ..now she won't go back to a desktop. Neither will I! Why get stuck in a corner of a room when you can do the same thing from anywhere in the house/////? The only drawback, big drawback that is, is the battery. You won't be able to go away from a power source for more than a few hours with the battery that comes with this and the screen on battery power is pretty dim. Otherwise, this is a great little laptop and tough. Has been dropped a couple... review »

When we ordered this laptop at the beginning of the year, we went with a laptop versus a desktop, so we could be where our kids were.  This has been a huge plus for our boys so we can be in the same room with them.  They love looking at pictures and playing games on the internet with us.  We used to stuck in our office and the boys would have to come find us.

I also love the fact that we can take it with us when we go on vacation.  That way I am able to upload the pictures instantly and view them.  We are also able to watch movies and listen to CD's.  The sound quality is great.

I've been using this laptop for a couple of years now, and it's been a great workhorse.  I'm online constantly, working with Web files, multimedia files, and, well, lots of "work" stuff, and I haven't had any trouble.  Luckily, I got my laptop before the Windows Vista release and even though I did get the free Windows Vista CD, I haven't installed it.  I'll stick with Windows XP as long as I can!

The only warning I have is that the hard drive I have isn't nearly big enough.  I recommend you get the biggest hard drive you can possibly afford.

When I purchased this laptop, I brought it home, and there was no operating system installed. HP could not do anything about it, and luckily the store let me exchange it for another one. The second one had a bad CD/DVD drive, and after talking with their customer service agents, they sent me a whole new drive for free. They have excellent support, but I would have liked the machines to work correctly the first time. Other than that, the laptop is great, although I am not a fan of windows vista. The webcam is great and everything (including voice recognition) is easy to use.
