Here's an affordable, easy to use laptop that costs less than 800 bucks, and provides excellent value for the price. My wife and I use it for a variety of purposes, including graphic design, and are very happy with it.

I'm not sure if our laptop is more souped-up than the basic model (specs listed below), but we have 3 gigs of memory on our machine. It's pretty durn fast, putting my PC to shame.

There are a bunch of programs that come pre-installed, so you have the option of keeping the ones you want to use and removing the ones you don't need. It comes with Windows Vista installed (you have to pay an extra few hundred if you want to install XP instead).

Another thing that we really like about the HP DV6000 is the screen: at 1280 x 800, the resolution is excellent, not to mention widescreen and hi-def. It's a thing of beauty.

I have read that some users think that this laptop runs hot, but we haven't had any such problems. Compared to our previous laptop, a Sony Vaio, which ran hot enough to heat a 2000 square foot home, the HP is totally cool. In more ways than one.

Basic Specs:
* AMD Turion 64, dual core processor
* 3 GB DDR2 memory
* 15.4″ WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
* 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7200
* 160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
* LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
* 1.3 Megapixel Webcam with mic built into screen
* Altec Lansing speakers built in
* 3 USB ports, ExpressCard/54 Slot, Video Out, Integrated Consumer IR, 1 RJ-11, 1 RJ-45
* Windows Vista Home Premium

Sounds great. My old Dell Laptop has an awful battery!! I see all of these people with their laptops at the airport and wonder how the heck do they do that? I don't know anything about Vista..I finally got used to XP! LOL

Truth be told, my wife uses it a lot more than I do, but I know it comes with Vista, Vongo, and a bunch of other Miocrosoft stuff. What I should have mentioned in the review is that you get to use Microsoft Office something like ten times before you have to ante up and buy the software package.

Sounds pretty nice. What kind of preloaded software are we talking about here? Anything useful??
