Hewlett Packard HP Pavilion DV9000 Review Summary

Hewlett Packard has sailed past Dell to become the world’s largest computer maker, and stellar reasonably priced produces like the HP Pavilion dv9000 Laptop computer might be one of the reasons why. Our community of reviewers has mixed feelings about this stylish laptop on one hand lauding its portability, performance, and ease of use among other features, but panning it lack of reliability on the other. Built around the 64-bit-enabled Intel Core 2 Duo mobile Processor or the AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core mobile processor, the HP Pavilion dv6000 Laptop is shipped with Microsoft’s Windows Vista Operating System, up to 2.0GB of RAM, an NVidia graphics adapter, DVD-ROM drive, 17” diagonal WXGA BrightView, or optional WXGA+ Ultra BrightView, display, and wireless NIC. Our reviewers recommend this laptop computer lauding its performance, versatility and affordable price-point. This is a good laptop for the money (paid 700 bucks after all rebates).Has 2 bays for hard drives, so you can expand. Screen is huge and nice, comes with a card for cable input. Put LINUX OS (UBUNTU) on it which went smoothly. Be careful though- Windows VISTA does not tolerate other OS being installed-... read full review »

This is my 4th HP computer, I had 2 destops and 2 laptops.  I am also a stockholder and my shares have to go up $30 just to break even!  So you know I wouldn't say something bad about HP unless it was for real.  My laptop lost the wireless connection after I had it 4 months.  My laptop never leaves...

This was my very first note book purchase, and I researched them quite thoroughly for my price range.  I spent around $2000 but got a top of the line processor, of course the 19inch monitor, which was a necessity for me, because I got my lap top for games.  I also hooked up wireless internet at my house with a cable modem.  I very rarely now actually have to sit down at my older computer, in the computer room, and now consider it nearly obsolete.  I love the convenience of just grabbing my laptop and having it everywhere that I go.  If I am bored, and wake up in the middle of the night, I...

I absolutely loved my HP dv9040 laptop, Despite its size, it was easy to get around with if necessary. The only thing that was quirky was the webcam, which had limited capabilities, so I used an external one. However , occasionally it would get proprietary and take over even
if not supposed to be on. But the main thing, it was out for repair 3 times in 11 months for 14 weeks, after which HP sent it back unrepaired because the warranty expired and they wanted $753- to replace the motherboard. (even though they had it for several weeks prior to the warranties expiration)  The first two repairs...

I bought the HP Pavillion dv9000 when I started working at home last year. The main thing that attracted me to it was the ten key being ON the keyboard. Two months later, I started getting blue screens nearly everytime I got on it. Eventually, strange things started to happen. It would just shut itself down out of nowhere, I lost all use of sound, I wasn't able to right click on my mouse, my internet stopped working  and eventually I wasn't even able to turn it on. I have had the hard drive replaced twice and it is still extremely unstable. I will get a blue screen at any given moment or it will... read full review »

I bought this computer for school, and when I was buying a computer I was looking for a good deal, but also a computer that was reliable, and had good memory.  I was told about this laptop.  After owning it for almost a year, I have to say I am impressed.  Great sound, big screen, light (enough), a lot of fun gaggets, and most of all it stores a lot of memory.  There was problem I did have though.  At one point my sound didn't work.  I had to get the sound totally replaced.  I don't believe that it was the computer itself that caused that problem, I belive it was a program that I had put... read full review »

I shopped around in general for about 6 months.  I wanted to know "how much" of a laptop I could get for my money.  I wantedf and needed something that would not be obsolete as soon as I got it home.  This laptop has a beautiful 17 inch screen, but weighs less than 9 lbs.  It has every feature I would put into a custom desktop rolled into a laptop!  And the $200 rebat I got didn't hurt either.  I wanted more than a $500 laptop, and I was willing to pay a bit more to make sure I got everything.  Thgis laptop has everything, and I love it.

I've owned the dv9535 for about three months now.  I love it.  It's bulky to travel with, but not heavy really.  It is very feature laden and essentially a desktop replacement, which is exactly what we bought it for.  The HD monitor is great and movies look fantastic on it.  The processor is very fast and I get much better battery life than I expected to with such a huge screen.  I love the full keyboard with 10 key as well.  Overall very good quality, very few problems, and good value as well.

Bought it a a great price. Had to spend extra to upgrade the memory . It ships with two 512 MB chips. to upgrade to the max you have to remove both of them and replace them with one gig of ram on each slot . Would be helpful for HP to ship it with one Gig of ram in just one slot so that you could upgrade at half the price.

If was vista ready when I bought it . I installed Vista as instructed and found that it wasn't compatabale with the hardware on this system . I uninstalled Vista went back to XP and couldn't be happier.

I use my laptop every day, I have never had a problem with it, and it is fantastic. The quickplay buttons make this product very convienent. I don't have a problem with the Vista, I actually really like it. Vista really isnt different than XP either, just looks different. I personalized my HP and it does exactly what i want it to. It wasnt expensive either.

I bought a new HP computer 160 gig, 2 gigs memory.   It would bring up a white screen 3 or 4 times in the course of each use.  It was very disturbing as I had to shrink the screen, click on the tool bar, and press delete every time.  I don't know what caused it, but I  talke to HP, Microsoft, about  it  and they suggested that I remove everything from the hard drive, and reload it.  As it  is a brand new computer,I felt I shouldn't have to to this so I took it back to the store, and bought another HP computer, 200 gig, 2 gig's memory. 9600 series.  Guess what.  I had it for 1 day, and... read full review »

After ordering a Dell laptop and then having our ship date postponsed three timesk, we decided to shop around and found this laptop!  I have been using it for almost a week now. I have always been an avid pc user and thought that I would have a hard time adjusting to the laptop - well after about an hour on it, I am soooo happy!

As far as the screen goes - it's 17.1 inch and is so extremely clear!  Because of the larger monitor, the keyboard area had space to add a numerical keypad - something I use in my at-home business constantly!  The mousepad is soooo easy to use and it took relatively...

This is my third HP laptop that I have had.  My first one I sold just because I didn't need and my second one got peed on by my dog.  No joke!

I couldn't be happier with this laptop.  It is very user friendly, the screen is clear and easy to read, the keyboard is nice and big with a number pad and it has fairly decent sound for a laptop.

When I bought mine, we instantly upgraded  the memory to 2 gigs.  I have heard about a lot of people complaining about only having 1 gig of memory and I am so glad we upgraded.  It has been great.  This computer has no problems running multiple programs at...

I absolutely love HP computers. I have worked with the other popular brands such as Gateway, Dell, and Sony.  I have always been satisfied with these brands, but not as I have been with HP. I love the tech support that HP provides. I have never had a problem that the tech department couldn't help me fix.

I own three HP's and always suggest this brand to anyone that asks my opinion of computers. I bought an HP at the same time one of my friends bought a Sony and now he wishes he had mine!

HP.com is a great website where you can compare all brands and types of computers. I love the "build your...

Overall the computer works absolutely great, i have only two problems with it. The first being that in mine and the several other people that i know who own this laptop, it is falling apart. The hinges on screen quickly became wobbly and eventually will not support the screen. The other problem is that hp can NOT seem to help me get the right drivers to actually use my num pad. I sent it in to them once, but when i redid my computer the problem came back. I have spoken to customer support several times, but they can't just send me a driver and i can't afford to lose my laptop for 3-4 weeks just... read full review »
