I bought this computer mainly for travel, I needed something lighter than the 14" laptop that I already had. This little computer has enough power to allow me to use it for pictures, webcams, email and all the things I use it for and then also enough to let my husband play games on it. It is light weight and doesn't hurt my hands and wrists as I am dragging it out of my carry on at airport security. I purchased an extra battery to use for those times that I use it without a power source.

The HP DM1z is a powerful little netbook that is great for anyone willing to deal with the poor battery life. On average, most basic netbooks will get about 7-11 hours of battery life on a single charge. Depending on brightness and wireless usage, I will get about 3 hours of life maximum on this machine. If I wanted to have 4-5 hours of battery life, I should've just bought a laptop, and then I could've gotten an actual dvd or blu-ray drive with it too. Compared against other netbooks, this one is one of the strongest ones I've seen. 720 or 1080p out of the HDMI port on the side (most netbooks don't even have an HDMI port even) and also a better screen resolution. Also, it came with 320 Gig of memory on it, which I have barely begun to tap into. I can say that this machine is a really good first generation thing, but since I recently saw they have a new version of this same computer, I would wait to afford the new one, or wait for the 3rd generation of this. By then, they'll probably have some of the battery issues and such worked out, and it'll be a fantastic machine.

The HP Pavilion dm1z is one of the first to use the new AMD FUSION processor with a graphics card built into the chip. The laptop is attempting to hit a spot right in between a netbook and a notebook. A spot it hits perfectly in all aspects. The dm1z is decently powerful enough to handle most productivity software with out a hitch and small and light enough to carry everywhere. The graphics on the HP dm1z will not handle heavy cutting edge gaming, however it will play full HD 720/1080 video, through its HDMI port, to my TV fine. It also has no problems running older but classic great games, Half-Life 2 and its family of games all play fine on the laptop, as well as the popular World of Warcraft is playable at 28-32fps turned down. The battery life is not the advertised 9+ hours, unless you turn off WiFi and bluetooth. However, I am getting 6-7 hours on power saver of average use. With 5:30ish hours of constant HD video playing. The dm1z keeps a charge all day on and off use exactly like a netbook, but is a significant step up in computing power. Other Positive notes: -The keyboard is nice and responsive, and aside from a slight difference in the arrow keys one of the best I've used. -The entire bottom plastic case comes off to access the component parts. Making upgrading Ram or HDD or cleaning a wonderfully simplistic job. Negatives: The touchpad is hyper sensitive and at the same time clunky for scrolling/clicking. An upgrade to the driver fixes some but not all of the problems. The screen's viewing angles are quite narrow and the screen is very reflective.
