Hertz Review

I hate Hertz.  Not a little bit, but from the bottom of my soul.  A bit harsh on my part?  Nothing of the kind.  It all started in 1995 in Chicago when I had rented a convertible Mustang with my then girlfriend from Hertz, and was headed down the Kennedy Expressway to meet some of her family.  

A semi truck pulled into our lane, turning the Mustang sideways and onto the front bumper of the speeding truck.  We were pushed down the expressway for approximately a quarter mile being bumped down the expressway sideways before the truck stopped, with me sitting sideways in the road and the semi truck eight feet behind me.  The left side of the Mustang was crushed but still drivable amazingly.  The driver later told me, "he never saw me, and thought that he'd hit a curb or something".  The driver information was exchanged, and the semi driver was cited by Chicago's finest. 

After turning the car back to Hertz, post accident, and being treated like a criminal despite not being at fault for the accident, I was later harassed by Hertz for the insurance deductible as they had not been able to attain the money for the accident from the trucker.  This was no small harassment, they had lawyered up, sent letters to my employer, and called me at home to threaten me personally.   I asked them if they were aware that the accident was not my fault, but that wasn't their issue.  They just wanted money, and I was the easy target. 

Justice prevailed, and my Southern wildcat of an insurance agent, (and I love her dearly), stopped their harassment and unwarranted persecution in their tracks.  I tell this story to all who will listen, and caution anyone who rents from Hertz.....beware.
