Imagine that one day you wake up and there is something different about you. At first you don't really know what is happening to you. You know you aren't sick. You still don't know what it is. All you do know is that you have an ability that you didn't the day before. You may be able to fly, you might be able to bend the space time continuum, you may be able to hear others thoughts, or you could be a homicidal maniac who removes other's brains for your own personal gain. You, my friend, are special; you are now part of the hit show Heroes.
NBC's show Heroes follows a group of different people who are all unique. They all have some special ability. Some of them are just discovering their abilities while others have had them for a long time. The main group of characters consists of a Japanese office worker and his friend, a striper, her son, and her ex-con boyfriend, a politician and his brother, and artist, a cheerleader, a cop, an artist, members of a secret underground organization that is tracking and kidnapping heroes, a scientist, and, also a homicidal maniac. Not everyone has powers, not everyone is bad, and not everyone is good.
Heroes is the story of people from all walks of life who discover that they have special abilities and how they deal with them. Without giving away season one's plot; I can say that most of the characters don't now about each other. As they go about their lives their paths start crossing. I don't want to explain any more, I don't wish to spoil anything for those who may want to start watching the show.
Heroes was Created by Tim Kring. Tim as also responsible for other shows, such as, Crossing Jordan and Providence. Heroes is written like a comic book with out the feel of being a comic book. The show works. Excellent writing and great acting makes the show what it is. Instead of saying that this person has powers and here he is, the show takes a more human approach. We watch as our heroes learn about their abilities and how these powers affect their lives. Another thing that makes Heroes work is that the show doesn't always focus on the main characters. Sometimes a character may be show on many continuous episodes. At other times, we may not see a character for a while. New characters are usually being introduced while others are being taken away. A final thing that makes Heroes work is that the story is going somewhere. Where most shows have different stories on a weekly basis, Heroes does not. Heroes is a linear program where there is a start and a defiant path to the season's finally.
In my Viewpoint, Heroes is an incredible show that is worth watching. The story is compelling, and the acting keeps you coming back. If you have missed season one; try catching up on NBC.com. If not, and you don't want to have anything spoiled, don't start watching until season one comes out on DVD.
