I was introduced to Herbalife through a program called the Weight Loss Challenge (WLC). I saw a newspaper ad for a 12 week program in which each participant pays $29 to join the program. The top three people who lose the most weight at the end of the challenge win a portion of that money, which could be in the hundreds of dollars depending on how many people sign up.
The WLC sounded like a great idea but I couldn't help but wonder what the people in charge of the program got out of it. There was no mention of Herbalife until after I paid my $29 and received my materials. That's when I knew that the class would be given a sales pitch each week for Herbalife products. I felt a little duped but I still wanted to lose weight so I faithfully attended each weekly class.
I had no intention of purchasing Herbalife products (and was told by the instructors that it was not required), but little by little, I started trying new products almost every week. I started with the protein bars (which I love!) and then progressed to shakes, tea, and vitamins.
Herbalife offers a slew of nutritional products including food (for both children and adults), vitamins, and skincare items. Herbalife conducts a lot of scientific research and their Nutrition Advisory Board is made up of distinguished doctors with Ph.D's, and other experts in the health and nutrition fields.
One important thing to mention is that some items in the Herbalife brochure have an asterisk next to them mentioning that "These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration." Therefore, when I was told by a WLC instructor that one serving of the Herbal Tea Concentrate burns 70 calories, I had to take that with a grain of salt. I don't know if it's true, but I still drink the tea regardless because it tastes good and is better than drinking soda and juice.
I haven't lost a lot of weight using Herbalife products but that may be due to me not taking them on a consistent basis. However, when I do use my Herbalife products, I feel great and have more energy.
As for the cost, some items are pricey. One bottle of the above-mentioned herbal tea costs $19.95 for 1.8 oz.. Depending on how much tea I consume, that is very expensive compared to tea from the grocery store.
The Formula 1 Healthy Meal Nutritional Shake Mix costs $23.95 for a 550g container. Vitamins can cost $19.95 and up. Protein bars start at $16.95 for a box of 14. All prices are due to increase soon, if they haven't already.
Overall, I recommend Herbalife products for anyone wishing to pursue a healthier lifestyle. Your wallet may be a little lighter but maybe your body will be too.
