I am very picky about the kinds of shampoo and other hair products that I use. I have used a variety of brands in the past, ranging from lower priced store brands all the way up to very expensive salon brands. I have very oil skin, which results in my having very oily scalp as well. To give you some idea, my hair is so oily that by the time I go home in the afternoons, I need to wash it again. I have tried the Frederick Fekkai shampoo that has apple cider vinegar in it, and it notes that it is for those afflicted with oily hair. It smells great and does a good job, but who can afford to pay almost $20 for a bottle of shampoo? After not being able to afford to continue with Fekkai, I went to my local mass retailer and found Herbal Essences. I hate their commercials, but had a coupon and decided to give their Drama Clean shampoo a try. I went ahead and purchased the large sized bottle, hoping for the best.
I went home and decided to try this new Drama Clean shampoo out the next morning, even though I still had enough Frederick Fekkai applie cider shampoo that I could shake out of the bottle to get one last washing with. When I initially poured out the Herbal Essences Drama Clean shampoo I was first taken by the dark, grass green color of the shampoo. I was also pleased that the shampoo smelled great. It has notes of peppermint and icy pineapple. Both scents that make me think of cleanliness, and these are also scents that I think of when I look back at other products I've used that are designed for oily skin, scalp and the like. I poured out a quarter size blob of shampoo and began washing my hair with luke warm water. I will go ahead and mention that I have hard water as well. I washed for about a minute before rinsing. This shampoo, with it's peppermint and ice pineapple, left my scalp tingling. It didn't tingle to the point that it was bothersome. Just a pleasant, wake me up in the morning at 6 a.m. tingle. The Herbal Essences Drama Clean shampoo lathered up very well. I don't like shampoo that does not lather well enough. I hate the feeling of rubbing my long and fine hair into knots because the shampoo I use doesn't lather up well enough. I did not have a problem with this shampoo. It had just the right amount of lather with minimum effort. The shampoo rinsed well also, despite the hard water I have. So far so good. Although the smell started out good enough, within another few moments of rinsing and following up the shampoo with a dose of conditioner on the ends, I could not smell the peppermint any more. I towel dried my hair and then proceeded to dry it. As my hair dried, I noticed a light scent of peppermint lingering on the strands. It was just enough left without being overpowering. After drying my hair I could tell that my roots were nice and clean, and most importantly oil free. This Herbal Essences Drama Clean shampoo had done as it claimed. It cleansed my scalp not only of oil from the day before, but also from any left over hairspray that I apply so freely in the humid and damp air here in south Alabama.
I did not notice this shampoo adding any extra body to my hair, but just getting my roots so clean alone helped add some extra lift to my style. This shampoo is not a cure all for oily hair, but it does help at least keep it under control each day by doing such an excellent job cleansing. The peppermint scent does not last past mid morning, and that's even with it lingering after I apply hair spray. I have noticed my hair is very shiny after using the Drama Clean shampoo from Herbal Essences. Because it is such a cleansing shampoo, it does not help in any degree with combatting frizz. What we really need is a shampoo that fights frizz and oily hair.
Overall I am very pleased with my cheap and inexpensive shampoo from my local retailer. It is much easier to purchase this shampoo locally that have to go to the trouble of ordering more expensive brands online. Plus, there's usually a coupon in my newspaper about the time I need to purchase another bottle of Herbal Essences Drama Clean shampoo. Ounce for ounce, there is as much oil cleansing power and light but great smelling peppermint and icy pineapple oils in this shampoo as in any of the other expensive brands I have tried in the past. My boyfriend has even commented that my hair smells divine after I lather up in Drama Clean. I think the heat from the hair dryer amplifies the scent, as he has made the comment that when I am getting ready in the morning he can smell the shampoo throughout the house, even if it is a small house.
If you have the chance to try this shampoo, go ahead. It is worth a small investment. If you have to wash your hair every day due to the oil, it does not make sense to buy expensive shampoo if you can find something that actually works, such as Herbal Essences Drama Clean.
