I'll never forget my first "introduction" to Heartguard many years ago, in the reception area of our veterinarian's office. On the counter, for all to see, was a clear glass jar. The contents inside the jar were a "piece of meat" entangled with "spaghetti-like" strands. In actuality, it was the preserved heart of an unfortunate dog who had contracted heartworm! What I saw here was so GROSS! I remember thinking to myself that there was no way any dog would be able to function with a heart that was literally being suffocated by so many worms! Needless to say, my dogs have always been on Heartguard. There is just NO WAY I would ever knowingly allow them to become victims of such a horrible death! I do know several people whose dogs did have heartworm. Fortunately for them, their dogs were able to be treated. Unfortunately, the treatment was VERY expensive and could have been prevented with Heartguard.
Heartguard saves lives! It comes in a soft, chewable tablet that my dogs love. These tablets are given just once a month for the duration of the "mosquito season." As far as the cost goes, I believe I have paid anywhere from $6-$8 per tablet. In the area which I live, these tablets are generally given for 6 to 7 months of each year. The cost of these tablets is much cheaper than treatment for the disease and my pets don't have to suffer needlessly. I can't say enough about the importance of this product and your pet's well-being! Please shower your dog with the love she/he deserves. And, do it "in a heartbeat."
