After having nursed my inlaw's dog through heartworm treatment, I will never let my dogs go without heartworm pills. The treatment is hard on even a young dog, and elderly dogs really suffer. (Plus it's expensive, and it's NOT optional. Heartworms are slow killers, but killers nonetheless.)
Thank God for Heartgard making it easy!
The brick-shaped chewables are soft and smell like treats. My dogs will actually do tricks to earn them. The size of the doses ranges from about an inch long for the little dogs to about an inch and a half for the biggest. If you have a dog larger than 100lbs (like I do) you'll have to add up to your dog's dosage by buying multiple smaller packets.
The hardest thing about giving the medicine is remembering to do it on a monthly basis, and Heartgard has even made that as easy as they can by providing cute little stickers for your wall calendar or planner.
So, don't put off doing the responsible thing. There's no excuse! Heartgard is competitively priced and it just couldn't be easier to use.
