To the Point
This is a true story. There have been times that we’ve been in transit and rather than stay in a campground just for a few hours overnight we’ve stayed in Wal-Mart parking lots. The last one was so noisy that at 4:30a.m. I went into Wal-Mart and bought Hearos Ear Plugs. Campgrounds are notorious for being near an airport or train station. It seemed we were in one airport in Playa del Rey. Both my husband and I used these.
A Closer View
I bought a package of 8 which is 4 pair. They are very soft and spongy feeling. These are a neutral color and made of foam. I paid about $2.50.
The concept is a simple one. If placed in my ear properly the sounds are not as strong. Putting them in my ear is simple. I just roll them making them thin. I then insert them as instructed on the package. What happens is that they expand in the ear.
They should be thrown away after several uses because dirt and wax accumulates in them.
They have a noise reduction rating of 32 decibels. The package says this is higher than others which go up to 30. The higher the number the better they work.
So do they work?
First of all they really need to be put in correctly or they’ll fall out so they only work if they stay in. They don’t block out all the sound but they do dull the sound. The planes, for example, weren’t quite as loud as they would be. I will keep buying them. My son-in-law uses them as well when Hanna stays over because she barks at times in the middle of the night. He’s a light sleeper and these help him sleep through the night.
