I am always watching my weight and trying new meals to help achieve this. I am a busy professional and don't have time to cook most nights. I count on frozen entrees more than I wish I had to.

As someone who has been eating frozen dinners for many years, I'd come to use only three brands: Lean Cuisine, Healthy Choice or Weight Watchers Smart Ones. Lean Cuisine generally came out ahead; although the most expensive, they had the best food and most variety on the market.

While at the grocery store last week, I spied a new item from Healthy Choice called Cafe Steamers. Adventurous and always looking for the next best thing, I purchased the Beef Merlot and the Chicken Marsala.

I first tried the Beef Merlot. It was easy enough to cook... you take the entree out of it's carton and place it in the microwave as is. No need to poke holes or peel back the plastic cover. In less than 5 minutes it was done. After sitting for 1-2 minutes, you pull back the plastic, take out the top portion, which contained large, meaty cuts of beef, large whole green beans & wedges of potatoes, and dump it in to the lower bowl, which held the merlot sauce. It was absoutely delicious! The beef was tender, the veggies crisp & potatoes perfectly cooked. At only 240 calories, throw in a side salad and it is a feast for those watching their calories!

I then tried the Chicken Marsala, which was equally good. Four (that's 4!) large strips of chicken, al dente pasta & mushrooms made this as wonderful and equally tasty a dish as the previous one. I can't say how satisfying it is to have what tastes like a home cooked meal for so little effort and cost (at $3.09 per meal).

I have 10 more varieties to try, and I can't wait to taste each and every one of them. I will recommend this product to everyone!

In response to FoodieGal's comment from Oct 15, 2007 at 12:45PM:

I don't know what meal FoodieGal was eating, but these are great. I tried these and LOVED them. The chicken was perfectly done, not chewy or microwaved like the traditional microwaved meals. The vegetables came out crisp. Even the potatoes were done correctly. I was so tired of old microwave meals, where everything came out equally chewy. I'm sold on these.

I saw the commercial, bought it tried and was VERY disappointed! The pasta was all broken, the chicken tasted like play do, and the sauce tasted liked vinegar! A truly NASTY meal! Don't buy it, I am throwing the rest I bought out and asking for a refund from the company. Best, ~K

I am on my fourth variety now and each one has been a real treat for this temporary bachelor.

Great review and you sold me. I will be buying some of these this coming week. I only eat the three frozen meal brands you mentioned as well and I am somewhat sick of the same ole, same ole.
