Hi,

I was reading New England Journal Of Medicine awhile back ago and I seen that there has been conclusive links to infants that die form Sids to an abnormal seratonin level in the brain so the brains doesnt work right and the child died from the malfunction so to speak and theres also been links in people who take seratonin uptake inhibitors while pregnant and Sids.My nephew died from Sids back in 2004 at a month and a day old.His mother was prescribed a serotonin uptake inhibitor before she was pregnant and she took it through out pregnancy.I am in no way saying parents are killing their babies and i am defintely not saying parents are responsible.I just want to know what everyone else thinks about this controversal finding?

That is some interesting information.  I could believe it.  Anything we do while pregnant will effect the baby in some way.  Even things like an ultrasound, that are so routine now can effect baby's development and cells.

The other piece of research I have seen regarding the causes of SIDS has to do with spinal subluxation in the upper neck area.  I don't know all the scientific terms but when the first and second vertebrea are out of alignment, they can then pinch the nerves that flow through them to the rest of the body.  These particular vertebrea contain the nerves that control vital functioning like breathing and heart beating.

Thats a new one on me but very intresting and I could very well see that too.Sids is a horrible thing and if you think about it the brain and spine work in conjunction to one another and if they cannot process because of seratonin or immaturity or a spinal subluxation then this could very well cause this.Iknwo theres near miss Sids my daughter was one.She stopped breathing all the time when she was small and had ot be placed in a apnea monitor that went off all the time but we were able to jar her to stimulate the neuro response. She is 14 now and believe it or not when she was 12 she had a rare seizure and  ended up in Baptist Meidcal Center unconcious for 24 hours straight and they found out she had an abnormality in the brain and now they believe she was actaully born with it and thats why she stopped breathing. She now takes seizure medication that she will be on for life but she is alive and doing ok.Had I not been really over protective and noticed her turning gray in her crib and carseat while she was sleeping she may not be alive today.I thank God for her all the time and my heart breaks for the parents who lose their infants.
