I am all in a fluster.  My mom's doc just put her on another med and its Entrocort EC 3 mg. They are telling her that it will be over $700 a month.

She is in the "Donut hole"  right now and will have to dish out this money along with her other medication she must take...others are around $400 each...I have looked on line and found this med  for $150  for a month supply at different RX web sites.

Are there really safe RX on line stores? What should I look out for? Is there someone to call to give a piece of my mind on this?  How the heck are the elderly supose to get hit with these med prices?

All ideas welcome and thank you in advance!!

Amy

Contact the manufacturer of the medications.  They are surprisingly generous.

Oddly we are having a hard time finding who makes this drug.  Thanks Rudi I will be making calls!

I don't know why they just don't lower the prices on these meds. Most of them cost 5 to 15 cents to make.  My mom thinks they are trying to get rid of old people with price shock.

Astra Zeneca makes  Entocort.  They do have a generous program that they publicize in their commercials.

That's an amazing price: more than $700 for one month of pills that are 3mg each. That's three milligrams, as in three-thousandths of a gram. A month's supply adds up to 90mg. Put another way, this stuff costs about $8,000 per gram. Since there are about 454 grams in a pound, that's about $3.6 million for a pound of this stuff.

The cost of drugs is WAY out of control.

I think advertising is what jacks up the price of brand-name medications.  That's what I have been told by a pharmacy I picked up a prescription at.

Also ask the doctor for samples.  Explain that the cost is astronomical and that you need samples, a generic if there is one available, or an alternate medication that is less expensive.  It's awful, isn't it?  I don't understand how people are supposed to get by with these prices.  Very sad.

We never thought to ask for samples, but we did find them cheaper.  Some of her other meds are $400 a month.  So start saving for your meds for later years now or don't ever get sick.  I must say mom is holding strong...last time she had a stay at a hospital was when I was born and that was almost 45 years ago.

Now the worry of all the mixes of different meds and what could cause more issues.

Bob that is an amazing break down! Dirty crooks they are...I think they should stop putting ads on TV since most of those meds end up being taken off the market.

One very urked chick!
