The Playskool Simon Says Sit and Spin is a new twist on an old favorite.  I remember many years ago, my oldest child (now 20) having a sit and spin. Then it was nothing more than a large plastic base to sit on, plastic column and plastic wheel. The most exciting thing about it was going round and round as fast as you can.

Not so with the Simon Says Sit and Spin. The base of the seat for the sit and spin is lime green and decorated with yellow stars and a crescent moon.  The speaker is set on the set, so it does eliminate some but not all of the noise.  A blue plastic column base supports a wheel for children to use their hands to pull them round and round adding to the momentum of the oval base which spins.  The wheel is now multi-colored silly smiley face with crossed blue eyes, smiling mount, green nose and blue eyebrows.

The  Playskool SImon Says Sit and Spinhas an on/off switch and a Simon Says or Musical Setting. There is no volume control. Children can free spin forwards and back to approximately 5 different songs or follow the instructions from Simon which consist of spin and spin faster with "Hooray" as a response for spinning and "Oh ohh" the response for stopping spinning.

Playskool Simon Says Sit and Spin takes 2 AA batteries and some assembly is required.  It is prices at approximately $47.99.

My Viewpoint: I am not sure that the addition of "Simon Says" is actually an improvement, but I do enjoy the music that plays while the children spin and they do to.  This version of the Sit and Spin is smaller that the original, so I would limit use of it to preschool/toddlers. The change in shape for the base/seat from circle to oval is an excellent improvement, as is the slight curve to two sides of the base provides better support for a child sitting and spinning.

I wish there were more than just a few short songs.  The children enjoy this toy, but not $47.99 worth, and even between the two of them only spend a few minutes on it at a time, and do not play with it every day.  I purchased it because my youngest used to sit on the tile and use her feet to help her spin around, so I thought she would enjoy this. I should have just let her keep spinning on the floor.  Overall I consider the toy to be average, since it is limited in length of use, no real variety and while it does teach fine motor skills, the price is very high for a toy that gets very little usage.

Thumbs down on this toy, mainly due to the price. But if you can purchase one used, as I did ($10.00) then it is worth it.  The children do grin and giggle when playing on this toy, just not for very long and not very often.

Too bad, I LOVED sit n spin when I was a kid, but mine must have been bigger b/c I used it way past toddler. Thanks for the warning!

I bought one for my daughter many moons ago, and she couldn't play with it for very long because she tends to get dizzy easily. I know I'll pass on this toy for my grandson. Nice review. :)
