Hasbro Connect Four —

Connect Four is one of those games that is not only easy to teach and learn, but can be fun for opponents of all ages.  The concept is easy enough, where someone tries to score 4 in a row, either vertical, horizontal, or diagonal.  The board, as we will call it, is a vertical standing game piece that measures 6 circles wide by 7 circles tall. At the top of the game are slots where a player drops a token down into it, and where it slides into place to begin game play.  The tokens are split into reds and blacks, with each player taking a color, and alternating when they take a turn putting a token into the game.

The matrix (game board) is easy enough to figure out, and which doesn't take an expert to master how to use it.  The game thus becomes very easy to set-up and take down, and with the exception of the tokens, doesn't really take all that much to break it down at the end of game-play.  The tokens could be a choking hazard if around little ones, so make sure to clean them up in a family setting, but at the same time, this is one of those games that works best when it is played by family members just looking to have a good time.

The game is quite easy to play, and the games can go very quickly unless a player takes a long time thinking through their different moves.  There are only 42 slots on the matrix, so games can go very fast, and allow for the next one to be started up almost immediately.  The game is recommended for ages 7 and up, and I think that this is a good range, and one which allows parents or friends to play along.  It's interesting enough to keep the attention of the player, and quick enough that it doesn't get boring along the way.  Each to learn, easy to play, and packed with potential, this is a highly recommended game.

I love love this game and now as adults we are playing Sequence which is a higher order of thinking game that we explain as connect four and rummy all played on a gameboard. I really need to review that game b/c I have been telling friends I would for months now!!

Nice review! I don't have this game anymore, but your well-written critique sure brings back memories of when I did! Kudos!
