Catch Phrase
This is a game that is fun to play. It is an electronic word game that has players try to guess a word as their partner gives clues to lead them to guessing without hand signals. The game can be played with any even number of people. As the person on the team holding the Catch Phrase device tries to give words to get their team to guess the word shown on the game, the other players on the team try to guess while a timer is beeping at them. If the team guesses the word the game is passed on to the other team. The opposing team tries to get their team to guess the new word shown. If they guess it they are able to pass the game back to the other team. The point of the game is to try to get the timer to go off in the other team’s hands. If it does go off in someone’s hands the other team gets a point. The first team to ten wins.
The game is simple and easy to use. You first select a category with a button on the game device and then press the start button to start the timer. As the word is guessed the button labeled “next” is pushed and this goes on until one team gets a point. Points are tracked with buttons for each team built into the device.
The game takes three AAA batteries and has run on the first set of batteries for over three years. We play the game every couple of weekends so the device runs a long time on the first set of batteries.
The game is very fast-paced and requires some creativity. It is a great family game; however, young children may not be able to play because some of the words are advanced. The cost is about $25.
