Great for toddlers!

4

My 3 year old loves Alphie! He normally doesn't focus on one toy for too long but Alphie can hold his attention for a good hour at times. Alphie says cute/funny phrases and the cards have pretty fun learning activities. The only downside is that the cards are pretty flimsy and crease easily, especially in the hands of a 3 year olds. Sometimes Alphie has a hard time reading the cards as well, but only with a few. Overall, it was worth the money.

I'm so glad I bought this learning toy for my son. He is learning his numbers, shapes, letters and sounds. He plays with Alphie daily and I plan to pick up the booster cards to stuff in his easter basket!

Alphie is a fun and educational toy

I really enjoyed Alphie The Learning Robot Toy when I was a child, so I was excited to find it on store shelves. My son just turned 3 years old (2 years old at point of purchase), but we still purchased this toy with a gift card he recieved from my father-in-law for Christmas. Even though his age is below the recommended age for this toy, he has still learned more about shapes, colors, and animals by playing with it. My 1-year-old daugher, who was 10 months old at the point of purchase, enjoys playing with Alphie by pushing its buttons even when a card is not inserted in it. My children enjoy this toy so much that they sometimes take in the car with them. I figured that the cards would get bent and damaged (as any other paper toy in the hands of an infant or toddler would), so I bought an extra card pack. I like the fact that I can leave the new cartridge in the toy yet it still reads the orignal cards. This has saved me from needing to reinsert cartridges several times in order for my children to play with all their cards.

Great learning toy

My son plays with this robot toy a lot and he's learned a couple things from him, which he likes to tell me about. The method of learning is a bit questionable since it uses primarily matching and multiplice choice but it's not bad, although the questions could have been done better I feel. For parents the audio and noises that come out of a child's toy is really important since that toy will be heard in the house over and over again. Well, this robot is not too bad and it is certainly bearable (your mileage may vary). The serious drawback of this toy is that uses laminated paper cards that are poorly secured. Not only that, but they are very weak. They can bend easily and because they are not even secured, they can very easily get lost. Because this a very likeable toy, it will get carried around the home a lot. As such, securing the cards should have been a prime concern for the developing team. For this reason, I am docking off a star. Overall though the robot has been fun so far.

Alphie is a lovable robot!

The games that Alphie plays are simple - good for very small children (could get repetative for older ones). But over all, Alphie is bright, colorful and funny. He provides encouraging support as your child plays various matching games with him. He also makes quirky robot jokes that the parents will enjoy as well. Alphie has two volume settings, unfortunatly they are "loud" and "very loud"! Alphie is very durable, and has a build in carriying handle on his head. There is also build in storage for the cards on his back. The cards are easy to bend though so you have to watch that. Kids will match colors, letters, nubmers, animals, uses for objects, jobs - there are really a lot of little games that the toy comes with. I think my boys enjoy picking out games and swaping out the cards just as much as they enjoying playing the actual games! This toy keeps my 5 and 3 year old busy for about 15 minutes at a time (which is a long time in toddler-time!)

Alphie is ok, but nothing special

My husband is originally the one that wanted to get Alphie the learning toy robot for my four year old son. I checked it out and agreed, I thought it looked okay, but my husband was really excited about it, so I obliged. I got Alphie for my son and thought he would be pretty fun, or at least I thought my son would think he was fun. What kid doesn't like robots, right? Well, Alphie has barely been touched. He played with it the first day and after that it was just another toy thrown in his room with pieces missing. Alphie speaks in a boring, monotonous voice that couldn't capture the attention of anyone. Boring. The cards that come with Alphi the learning toy robot are flimsy, they are made of cheap, cheap thin cardboard like material, they are EASILY bent and tore up. Without the cards all you have is a robot that keeps telling you to put a card in. I think the IDEA of Alphie is interesting, but the toy itself was just a waste of money on my part.

Great educational toy!

My four year old son received Hasbro's Alphie The Learning Toy Robot as a Christmas Gift. My husband was really excited about it because I guess he used to have an older version of Alphie as a child. I love that Alphie is an appropriate size. The buttons aren't too big nor too small, everything seems to be in proportion. My son loves Alphie and thanks to the awesome handle on Alphie the learning toy robot he carries him everywhere with him (even the car!) I admit I have played with Alphie a little bit to see what my son would be learning I think it's a great educational tool. Even my one year old daughter loves to play with it! Of course she doesn't fully understand but that doesn't stop her! ;) I think I only have one problem with Alphie though, and that would be the cards. They are kind of laminated but they can be bent or tore up easily, and without the cards you have nothing. The cards are the main focus of this toy. So I wish they could have either made the cards more sturdy, maybe even thin plastic? Other than that it's a great toy!

Alphie a hit with 4 year old.

Our son received this as a birthday gift last month and enjoys it very much.  He LOVES having his very own robot that talks to him.  The one deck of cards is double sided, so as packaged it does include a large enough variety to hold his interest.  While some of the games may seem repetitive to an adult, they are just right for his learning level.  The musical cards seem to be the biggest hit for him, allowing him (and his older sister - age 7) to play at adding and subtracting different instruments to create a range of "songs".  The graphics with Alphie's 'eyes' & 'smile' are fun and change often.  The volume can be adjusted low/high so that it a plus as well.  It is portable enough to take along in the car or carry around the house - although it would be helpful if there was some kind of strap to hold the cards in place - as they do fall out easily if turned upside down.  Overall, happy with this purchase and delighted with son's interaction with it.

too annoying

The only parents I would recommend this to is a deaf parent because I havent slept since christmas because my little brocther got one of these toys. I think its kind of cool and all but honestly this is not a fun thing to try to take from a kid nor is it fun trying to fall asleep while someone is playing with it. It is obnoxious and I might break it by "accident" next time I hear it especially tonight becauseIve had it I am all set. The first day it was gotten is the only day I liked it because it brought a smile to my brothers face and he played with it all day and it wasnt so bad that day but then the next and next and next day it was non stop hs obsessed with it which I think is a good thing but at the same time for the parents and older siblings that want to stay sane its not such a good thing. In the 8 year olds point of view I highly recommend it but to the parents who already have enough stress I dont.

Loose cards? Major Alphie flaw.

Alphie was a fantastic gift idea for my daughter who is really into robots right now, and it talks like a computer. The problem with Alphie is his card storage (a slot in his back where a deck of cards sits), and how easy the cards are to bend, crease, or otherwise ruin. Alphie has no moving parts, so he doesn't promote playing with like an action figure, which is a good thing, because otherwise the cards would be tipped out and all over the floor within seconds. Behind the card which is currently in use there is some kind of cartridge, which kids don't need to remove. This is a problem because when the cards are changed, the cartridge is visible and curious kids will have this removed and lost almost immediately after unboxing. As an educational toy, Alphie is very good, promoting basic color and alphanumeric recognition, as well as intertactive games with flashing lights. Alphie is lightweight and easy to carry for small children.
