Hartz 3 in 1 flea and tick repellant caused my cat to become ill.
My vet suggested a specific brand, but I did not see the harm in buying something that was on sale and several dollars cheaper that claimed to do the same job. Was I ever wrong!
Shortly after applying the drops according to the instructions, my cat began to act strangely. He was acting disoriented, his eyes looked odd and he was hiding which is not his usual self. When the symptoms were the same the next day, I took him to the vet who told me that Hartz flea and tick products sometimes cause this shock reaction in cats more than any other brand. She said, while the product is safe for most pets, it is not safe for all and there are other alternatives that have far superior safety records with cats.
I can accept the fact that any product might not be appropriate for all pets, afterall I was told to use something else. But there is no warning on the label, no suggestion of precautions. This is comepletely irresponsible. My Vet told me that a story on this was done about 5 years ago on 60 minutes about this Hartz product and its dangers. And that the product still is not changed or withdrawn from the market.
I saved $3 on the product and but spent $1200 at the vet. Fortunately my cat made a full recovery.
