For the first time in her life, my dog had fleas.  I found out on a Saturday evening when the local veterinarian offices were closed.  I was desperate and hence my purchase of Hartz Ultra Guard Flea & Tick Drops

I also purchased a flea shampoo that night and gave my beloved pooch a long and sudsy bath.  I saw the dead fleas after I rinsed her and waited until she was completely dry before applying the Hartz drops.  I was feeling pretty confident that we'd get the flea problem fixed in no time.

I couldn't have been more mistaken.  After a few days with no signs of fleas, they suddenly returned in full force.  The Hartz Ultra Guard Flea & Tick Drops packaging states to only use the product once per month so I didn't want to put it on my dog again.  I gave her another flea bath to no avail.

Finally, I had enough and called my veterinarian.  After telling him what I bought, he told me that I wasted my money and that I needed something more effective.  So my precious dog is now on a veterinarian-recommended flea medication that I've heard good things about.

In the meantime, I learned a hard lesson about buying over-the-counter products for pets, especially the Hartz Ultra Guard Flea & Tick Drops.  I used to believe that "ultra" meant super good, but now I know better.  If you are looking for a flea medication for your pet, you should avoid this product and contact your veterinarian.  You'll save yourself some money and a possible headache.

I can't remember the brandname but for some reason D-Con is sticking out in my mind. If they have a flea fogger I would go after that one. I set three off--one in living room, and one in master bedroom and larger guest bedroom. I didn't open up cabinets like you do when you do bug foggers. I stayed the night with a friend the day I set them off and the next day except for the cans in the middle of the floors you couldn't tell I had set them off. There was no residue or smell. Good luck--hopefully you won't need it but better to be safe than sorry.

I just told my hubby about the flea fogger and I think that we are going to try one. I guess we'll need to get out of the house for a few hours though. Thanks for the recommendation!

The flea foggers are wonderful. I did the carpet cleaning first and couldn't seem to kill them. The foggers will kill the eggs.

We don't have any pets but if we ever get a dog I'll remember this. Thanks.

Ugh! I was hoping that the fleas aren't living in our house and only on the dog. We don't have plush carpeting and I washed the dog's bed in really hot water. I guess I might be reviewing a flea fogger soon. ;)

I love your sound bite. I don't have pets but I did have a pet bring her dog into my home one time and my house got fleas. I had to use flea foggers, special carpet shampoos, and so forth. It took a week or two to de-flea my home.
