Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Review Summary

J.K. Rowling's third book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban continues the saga of the enormously popular young wizard and his friends. This new novel brings some changes to Hogwarts(the school for young wizards) and an escaped convict who turns out to play a very significant role in Potter's life. The prisoner, Sirus Black is trying to find Harry while the authorities are trying to find him. All the charm, fantasy and suspense are just as present, if not more so, as in previous installments, as the gang all grows up a little more. The book also introduces another new character with a secret, Remus Lupin. As one reviewer noted, "there's no doubt about it - Rowling hit a home run! Prisoner's got everything, and it's such a wonderful addition in the Harry Potter world after the first two amazing books! If you enjoyed the first two installments of this fantasy series, you will love this one as well.

This book is kind of the middle of all the Harry Potter adventure, and is the most boring of them all. Well he does get to help out his godfather but there is no voldemort, the book is just a complete boredom, yes I will emit that there is some action in the story line but just a bit of action before...

Our third year at Howgarts brings Harry new challenges.  There is a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, who has a unique relationship to Harry which over the course of the book he discovers.

Year three presents numerous challenges to Harry.  This book has all the things you would expect from a Harry Potter book, but in my opinion this is the book that switched the series from childrens book, to all ages.   JK Rowling brilliantly shifts her plot lines setting up the remainder of the series in this book.

The book begins with an escape from the wizard prison Azkaban.    The ministry...

Harry's third year is not going to be an easy one! He starts out running away 2 weeks before the school year even begins, but I would too if I had to live with the Dursley's. Sirius Black, convicted for ehlping cause the death of Harry's parents by betrayal, has escaped the notorious Azkaban Prison. No one has ever done this before. The prison is guarded by the Dementors, and they are life sucking, happy thought stealing monsters. These horrible creatures are sent to help guard Hogwarts in case Sirius shows up there. The Dementors affect Harry in a very bad way, and he is forced to learn to... review »

Although PoA is not one of the longest books of the series or even one that has one of the most action packed sequences, it remains one of my favorites because it introduces someone who could arguably be my favorite HP character of all time.  Sirius Black.  A troubled soul, tormented for years in an Azkaban jail.  Ends up spending a year living off rats so he can stay clear of the ministry of magic and stay alive to see Harry again.  He was good looking but didn't recognize it from what JKR has told us.  And most of all

This one is a winner. Meeting the dementors was thrilling. I could actually feel what Harry was feeling as the dementors tried to take him. Made me feel a little quesy.

It was great to finally start putting things togeather. I loved the shapeshifter aspect. Rons rat turning out to play such a large part! Who would've guessed???

I loved the way Harry came into his own and found his power. Saving his own life was huge.

I would recommend this book to die hard "Harry" fans and people that haven't even read one book in the series. "Prisoner" can stand on it's own as a thiller and is a fantastic addition...

I love Harry Potter and always have. This one is one of my favorite becouse not only is Harry older but he gets to meet his uncle. Even though everything that is said about him is negative. Harry comes to find out the truth and becomes close to his uncle and realises he has family and he is not alone.
I even liked the idea that Voldemort is not in it but is mentioned. When you keep bringiing back the bad guy he tends to get old and you just want the conflict to get over with. So letting him stay back out of the picture and is only mentioned is a good way to keep him in the picture wihtout...

Sirius is introduced in this installment ("Who could refrain, that had a heart to love?").  Anyway, I enjoyed this book as an avid Harry Potter fan.  Having read it the first time at the age of thirteen, I can attest to how perfect it is for tween readers.  My favorite character is introduced for the first time (other than a quick mention) in this book and leads to many many important character and plot developments.  This book also sets up a lot of the subtle clues to the Hermione/Ron relationship.  Harry grows up a lot in this book.  I would recommend Prisoner of Azkaban highly.

This book from author JK Rowling took the Harry Potter series to an entirely new level.  Harry begins to experience a dark, more moody side, and also learns more about his family's past, particularly his father's best friends.  He also encounters a figure who will aid the rest of his journey.  This book had strange and unexpected twists, kept me on the edge of my seat, and still to this day is my favorite of the series. And not just because the greatest character ever, Remus Lupin, joined the cast!

This was my favorite out of all seven books and yes, I have read all seven. This book was kind of a bridge between the earlier, light books and the later darker books. I really liked how Harry, Ron & Hermione bonded so much in this book - in some of the others, they are not so close, and I find their friendship to be one of my favorite aspects of the books. Also, this book was not too full of blood and gore as some of the later ones.

This book had only ONE bad thing.....and the bad thing was NOT REALLY BAD it was just half-way bad. The bad thing is that LORD VOLDEMORT NEVER MADE AN APEARENCE! Other than that the book had all of the posative aspects expected, and needed, and new characters that will never be forgotten. I WOULD DEFINENTLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!

Prisoner of Azkaban reveals most of what keeps people coming back for more.  The plot line draws you in, the characters keep you interested, the imagination behind the magical happenings is nothing short of fantastic.  The three main characters are suplimented by memorable new characters that add depth to Harry's mysterious past without ruining the surprizes to be found in later novels.

Our family are Harry Potter fans and read all the books together (out loud).  We thoroughly enjoyed the Prisoner of Azkaban, the intensity of the story and characters.  Harry meeting Sirius and what he learns about his father and himself is wonderful and brings a new dimension to his character.  This is a wonderful book for older kids up to adults, great to share as a family.

The main characters and the continuing story both come along so smartly (and Harry at last shows a glimmer of interest in the opposite sex, a sure sign that the tides of adolescence are lapping at his toes) that the book seems shorter than its page count: have readers clear their calendars if they are fans, or get out of the way if they are not.
