Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is BY FAR the best movie yet!!!

As with all the Potter movies, there's always the concern about how much damage they'll do to the story line, but they did a fantastic job! There was a perfect balance of funny with serious, which kept the movie from being too...

Last night I went to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince at the IMAX theater in Atlantic City.  The opening sequence and the first few scenes are shot in 3D and the entire audience really enjoyed the experience of seeing it in 3D.  Once the film went back to "normal" and I took off my 3D glasses,...

I do not go to many movies in the theater.  I wait for the DVD's.  My leather recliner chair is far more comfortable than the theater seats.  I have a rather expensive surround system that can take the roofs off the neighbors' homes when a Star Destroyer flies past on my big screen Trinitron (yes, it is a HUGE TUBE TV with outstanding definition, better than any LCD gizmo with poor viewing angles).  My fridge is only a few stairs away, the popcorn is free and my dogs enjoy my company.  To get me to the movies, especially within a day of a film opening, takes pretty special motivation.

The Harry Potter craze has been such an uproar, that I finally made the decision to find out what the craze is all about. Being that I had never sat through an entire Harry Potter movie, nor had I read the books, I sat through ABC Family's Harry Potter weekend and watched The Order of the Pheonix from HBO on Demand to catch up with the rest of the fans. Well, you might have already guessed it; I'm hooked! What an adventurous, action packed, well told story! Naturally, the next step was to see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

Starring Daniel Radcliff as Harry Potter, The Half Blood...

Movies made from books are always a dicey deal, sequels even more so, and despite the obvious financial success heading its way Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince suffers without the anticipation of a new book in the series with coattails to ride. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the unknown director's choice of using Hogwart's as a set piece instead of a character in and of itself - no ghosts, no moving pictures, very little to suggest that this was the mysterious place of magic. Even with the film's brooding tone, more should easily have been done. There are several scenes lifted...

OK, I'm not a raving Harry Potter fan but I do enjoy the movies.  I'm sure I'd probably enjoy them much more if I were an avid follower of the books, so my opinion is in the realm of "Your Mileage May Vary".

The special effects in the Half-Blood Prince were not disappointing, to say the least.  As always, I felt nauseated when swooping through the air along with the evil characters - which is usually a pretty good indicator of the realism in a movie since I'm afraid of heights.  (And I don't blanch when Wile E. Coyote falls off a cliff).  Another especially blood-curdling moment came farther...

I just saw Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince last night and it was everything I was hoping it would be!  There was humor, action, drama and of course romance.  The movie did not have everything from the book, but I wish it did I could have sat through another two hours of that movie.  I took all three of my kids ages 7-12 and the grandparents and it was awesome.  There were a couple of scary parts for the younger viewers to watch out for, but overall it is definitely a family movie.  I even caught Grandma crying at the intense death scenes. You could actually feel the heartwrenching pain...

In comparison to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which left out detail upon detail, The Half Blood Prince came as close as virtually possible to the details of the book.  With the Harry Potter series getting darker and darker as the story progresses, The Half Blood Prince movie offered some light-hearted comedy to break through the darkness.  Harry, Hermione, and Ron have started to develop romantic relationships which are obstacled by love-potions, bitter ex's, and  Haryy's fame of being The Chosen One.  However, the focus of the movie, being Harry's quest to figure out how to kill...

'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" is one of the best movies ever!  While there are some things left out of the book, and some scenes not in the book added to the movie, it is still a wonderful film, full of laughter and life.  It is one of those rare serial films that you can enjoy and understand without ever having read the books or seen the previous films.  A winner all around.

Yet another in the JK Rowlings saga.  Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince couples comedy, action and suspense.  It kept me intrigued throughout the movie.  Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!!!
