Doing my best to remain spoiler-free here... — — I've been a huge fan of this series for years, and at one point considered J. K. Rowling one of my favorite people in the world. All that changed this summer. — — I admit that I was one of the many crazy costumed geeks… read full review »

The Case — After six books, untold hardships for our characters, and years of waiting, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows has been released. And I was a participant in the madness. I theorized about the plot. I hazarded guesses over who would live and who would die. I was at a midnight party, waiting breathlessly for the stroke of 12. I read the book in less than 8 hours. So, the question is, did it live up to the anticipation? Did it rise to the challenge? Did it meet the high standards created by its forerunners? Yeah, I think it did. — The Plot (Spoiler-free!)… read full review »

Note: As this book is still only a week old and time of review, I'm trying my best to make this a spoiler free review. It's the end of July, and the Harry Potter phenomenon has come to its official close.  With the publication of the seventh and final Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, author J.K. Rowling has penned an enjoyable, fast read that stays true to the story arc set forth in the first six books, while retaining an air of unpredictability.  Except for the ending that is. — Our seventh book finds Harry, Ron and Hermione on a quest to find… read full review »

I finally got to read the last of the Harry Potter series. I have re-read all of them with joy. I was truly disappointed with the last book. The first part drags with them running around with the tent. I but the book down and finally returned 2 weeks later to continue,Later we find Harry and Dumbledore in a white room and all sorts of facts are revealed. I felt this was a begining writer type of thing to do. Did someone else finish the book or was she in such a hurry at the end? Then all of a sudden we advance years and people are married, etc. I had to read this part 2X's to… read full review »

I loved this series, really I did, but... emphasis on my use of past-tense verbs. — — So many deaths, and most of them unecessary. Not to mention that throughout the series, there was this character who had all the trappings of being the "token" member of his family to die- and JKR kills his brother (who was supposed to be the comic relief, and in the first five books had indeed served that purpose quite well) instead! — — Another big issue I had was a certain couple in the book. I didn't even like the idea of that pairing back when it only existed in fan fiction,… read full review »

I have read all of the Harry Potter series and am sad to see it come to an end but can't wait for the next stuff that JK Rowling will come out with if it is anything like Harry Potter I will be sure to read.   I enjoyed the plot of the book , very suspensful .  All the characters in the book pulled at my heartstings by the end seeing as how by the end of the book we lost most of the main characters in the main fight of the book . this book didn't fail to disappoint me .  I liked how they put Dumbledore back into the book to teach his lessons and he wasn't mourned as bad as… read full review »

I was a bit late boarding the "Harry Potter" train, I'll admit. But once I actually started reading it, I couldn't get enough. That is, until the fifth book. Didn't like that one as much as the other four. Hoped the sixth would be better- it wasn't. Which brings me to this, the seventh and (thank goodness!) final book. — — Having been "twice bitten", I was hoping that this book would turn everything around, be a vast improvement over the last two. I even went as far as pre-ordering, and showing up to the midnight release in costume. Once the book was in my hands, I felt as though… read full review »

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a great culmination of a fantastic series. While I hated to see the series end, the author managed to tie up loose ends and even throw a few surprises into the mix in this last book. — I do think the ending left off too abruptly. I wish more had been shared about the Harry's life after the defeat of Voldemort. Like many others, I guess I hope that J.K. Rowling will write a second series about the aftermath of the destruction of the Dark Lord. — All in all, it is definitely worth the read even if you have not read the other books in the… read full review »

This book is a great wrap-up to the series.  I tried hard to stay away from the spoilers on the Internet, but accidentally heard a few.  Some were true, some not...and in the end, it did not spoil my enjoyment of the book.  I read it straight through the day it came out.   The only things that disappointed me were that there was not more info about Harry's parents and his family's history, I was hoping for more of that.  Also, I wanted more about some of the other characters, like Luna, and how their futures turned out.  I hope Ms. Rowling does come out… read full review »

What's great about this book is that Rowling has done an excellent job tying all the loose ends.  Too allow redemption for the Bully, to confirm hints of romance, to show that pride can be a downfall, all very serious concepts for a "children's… read full review »

I swore I would never read Harry Potter.  I would never buy into the hype.  Then I took a Children's Lit course for college a few years ago, and I was assigned the first book, so I had to read it (I'm one of those types who actually does the required reading).  I loved it.  So, I read books 2-5, then waited for 6 to come out, gobbled that up, then waited for what seemed like ages for 7 to arrive.  I was not disappointed.  The book was very complex, and still very well written.  Others have said that they feel Rowling's heart was no longer in the book -… read full review »

My wife got me started reading these books sevral years ago. By the time I started the series there we already 5 books out.  Needless to say, I have read of them atleast once and a few twice.  I think the way that JK Rowling ended the series was good. She wrapped up a lot of plot lines that had been dangling for sometime. She killed some of my favorite characters and allowed some of my least favorites to carry on but over all a very good end.  I,like some others, was not too impressed with the white room section. It seemed too easy of a way to solve the Harry/Voldemort dying… read full review »
