What was that? No, really, what was it?

1 star rating

a Harry Potter fanatic, character-lover, read for fun, fiction reader
Pros

    no more after this

Cons
the epilogue, elements that were clearly jabs at fans, addition/birth of a pointless chararcter, reads like bad fanfiction, author's heart wasn't in it and it shows, bad romantic pairings, drags, pratically destroys the previous books, bad characterization

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows —

I was a bit late boarding the "Harry Potter" train, I'll admit. But once I actually started reading it, I couldn't get enough. That is, until the fifth book. Didn't like that one as much as the other four. Hoped the sixth would be better- it wasn't. Which brings me to this, the seventh and (thank goodness!) final book.

Having been "twice bitten", I was hoping that this book would turn everything around, be a vast improvement over the last two. I even went as far as pre-ordering, and showing up to the midnight release in costume. Once the book was in my hands, I felt as though I had obtained a real treasure.

Then I read it. Characters are getting offed left and right at random, someone suddenly has posters of bikini girls (why was this even mentioned?), two characters who totally don't belong together and whose personalities have been completely screwed up are now married and expecting, one of said characters is now a wannabe deadbeat dad, child resulting from said marriage ultimately serves no purpose whatsoever, some characters are being made to look awful while others are practically saintified, and last but not least what most fans have taken to calling "the crapilogue". What the [heck] was this? It felt as if the author just wanted to hurry up and finish, alienate her fans, or both.

Whatever. I'm through with her. I won't buy anything else she puts out, and am refusing to read her interviews or go to her website. As for book, well, it's on my shelf but I'm refusing to re-read it or even look at it.

I believe the "wannabe deadbeat dad" was one of the "two characters who totally don't belong together and whose personalities have been completely screwed up".

As far as this review, it's so nice to know that I'm not alone despite seemingly everyone else gushing about this unworthy addition to an otherwise great series.

The epilogue was rushed, but I enjoyed the book pretty much.

Okay I read the book and apparently it didn't have a lasting memory on me. Who's the "wannabe deadbeat dad?" I beat you could sell that book to a bookstore, or donate it to the library.

I have never (should I admit this?) read a HP book or seen a movie! Jo
