Had I known it would end this way, I'd never have become a fan
1 star rating

a Harry Potter fanatic, character-lover, read for fun, fiction reader, a student, a dreamer, hoping for the best
Pros

    fast read

Cons
addition/birth of a pointless chararcter, bad characterization, bad romantic pairings, the epilogue, bad character development, too many deaths, reads like bad fanfiction

I loved this series, really I did, but... emphasis on my use of past-tense verbs.

So many deaths, and most of them unecessary. Not to mention that throughout the series, there was this character who had all the trappings of being the "token" member of his family to die- and JKR kills his brother (who was supposed to be the comic relief, and in the first five books had indeed served that purpose quite well) instead!

Another big issue I had was a certain couple in the book. I didn't even like the idea of that pairing back when it only existed in fan fiction, so of course I was far from happy when it found its way into the actual series. The characters involved in that couple were ill-suited to one another, and it took completely messing (I really want to use the stronger word here, but I think that's against the rules) up their characterizations to get them together. That was bad enough, but then in this book they get married and have a child, which only made things worse. The fact that said child ultimately served no real purpose except to perhaps "cement" the couple that produced him and/or add way more drama to the already drama-soaked plot certainly didn't help matters.

The epilogue? Six words- gag me with a steak knife!

I'm very dissapointed in this book, and in the series as a whole. If I had know it would end like this, I would've never spent a dime on "Harry Potter" anything, and never become a fan in the first place.

Damn hind sight. I thought there were a lot of people killed off in the other six that was more dramatic and meaningful. The deaths in this last book only seemed like JK was trying to make it a big last stand by killing off all the people she did. It was very unnecessary.
