2009 Harley Davidson Road King Classic

The Touring line of Harley-Davidsons have been totally re-engineered for 2009 yet they have very little difference in appearance from last year's models maintaining excellent continuity with the gorgeous good looks of the Harley full dressers.

One of the main changes has been a complete redesign of the frame geometry making the bike handle better than the older big Hogs.  The materials and manufacturing processes are upgraded also, making it better quality than before.

The 2009 Road King Classic is an old familar model very similar in appearance to a 1960s police bike, yet the power and handling has it all over the old Harley cruiser.  In addition to the redesigned frame the bike has bigger tires including a massive 180 mm on the rear and a 130 mm on the front, both wide whitewalls in keeping with the traditional look of the big Harley Road King.

Power is generated by a 96 cubic inch fuel injected V-Twin with a Cruise Drive six-speed transmission and fiber belt drive.  The rear belt sprocket has an internal compensating system to eliminate power pulses and excess noise making the bike even more comfortable to ride than before. Electronic Cruise control is also standard equipment on the RKC. When you are cruising on the Interstate, just choose your speed, set, and forget.  The new bike has a six gallon fuel capacity which extends the range over the old five gallon tank.

The seat is a large two up tooled leather saddle with matching tooled leather hard saddle bags for your stuff.  The bike is totally nice with great chrome accents and a big chrome headlight with two running lights on the light bar.  These are quartz halogen and light the way into the future like no other motorcycle I've ridden.  Dual chrome handlebar mirrors give you a view into the past.

I chose the 2009 Harley-Davidson Road King Classic as my new bike. Mine is Vivid Black, like all my Harleys have been.  See you on the road!

George, Your review is right on, I picked up my 09 black H-D RKC last Thursday. WOW!!! I've owned many big cruisers and ridden many more. This is the best yet. Best regards, JB.

Thanks for the advice George. I saw that seat......I do have a guy that can possibly trim my seat down for me.........I might end up getting a different set of handlebars too.......

Thanks! I read your review and can tell you like your King as much as I like mine. Try a Sundowner seat from HD it rides a little lower. They make one especially for this model with the basketweave and insignias. Happy motoring!

Great review......I just went to Bikeweek in Daytona and upgraded to my first Harley from a Honda VTX1300R and it is like the difference between night and day. Mine is gold flake pearl and pewter.......the only thing negative is the seat is a little tall for my 5'9" frame and my feet barely touch the ground. Other then that......I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

Always nice to meet another biker. ;> I love my RKC and I hope you get the same feeling out of yours. It is very well made, handles well, and looks like a million dollars. Congratulations on your new bike! Happy New Year, too! :>

Thanks much, Jo. I usually hit that button before I write the comment and then I push it again if it doesn't say "thanks." ;>

Jo wrote on Nov 29, 2008 at 8:24AM

Shoot and I've been trying to do it before the comment. Thanks for letting me know. I think that helpful button should be somewhere else. It bothers me too that I have 8 comments and 3 votes (:

My cousin, the well - never mind - had a Harley. In fact long ago (you may remember) there was a group - it still exists...nasty Harley Riders. Do you remember their names?

You must have nerves of steel to be back out there on the roads on a motorcycle! Good luck with the new bike.
