2005 Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide FXD

Get on this long-legged boy and flog it like it was 1975 because that's where it takes you. The Super Glide is a classic Harley-Davidson Big Twin stripped for action.

The most characteristic feature of the Super Glide are the skinny legs on the front end as contrasted to the heavy looking covered forks of the typical big Harley. The same big engine is there and fully available at your command to prowl the streets of your city.

The Dyna model Harleys as a family have a rubber mounted engine to address low speed engine vibration, exposed shocks and battery cover, and represent the company's tribute to the early customizers who built the first Harley choppers and set the trend for motorcyclists forever after. Fellow members of the Dyna family are the Fat Bob, Wide Glide, Low Rider, and Street Bob. The Dyna is also available decked out in full Screaming Eagle trim, complete with the state of the art massively powerful 110 cubic inch V Twin engine.

The 2005 Super Glide comes standard with a 88 cubic inch (1450 CC) Twin Cam V Twin engine that is silver powder coated and accented with chrome covers. The bike in question Vivid Black.

The bike comes with ESPFI (Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection) standard and a five speed gearbox is also standard. The ponies get to the rear wheel through a fiberglas belt like all big Twin Harleys.

The Super Glide has a streamlined appearance unhindered by fiberglas or "garbage" and has the basic instrumentation of a speedometer, fuel gauge, oil pressure, lamp, neutral lamp, and high beam lamp. The turn signals are handlebar mounted and self canceling. The front end is stripped and the lower legs turned and chromed. A single headlamp lights your way into the night. Ten bar mag wheels mount Dunlop boots - a skinny one on the front and a BIG one on the back.

Riding position is English style, i.e., with your feet under you on pegs growing from under the engine case. This is perfect for riders of shorter stature, as is the low rider seating position of the Super Glide. I find this style of riding cramped because I'm over six feet but the bike is a keeper, none the less.

Controls are standardized with brakes on the right and clutch and shifter on the left. Low speed handling is exquisite for a machine weighing in at over 600 pounds dry. Riding at low speeds and cutting tight circles is the mark of good riding and at these little five MPH or slower jaunts you need to remember the bike weighs a lot and keep your hands off that front brake or you might take a spill.

One you leave the parking lot, crack open the throttle and leave the traffic behind as you head for the country roads where you can really open her up. She is as solid as a rock at 60 MPH and you can really feel the wind like it's your brother.

Make sure to wear proper safety gear and come participate in this, the greatest sport in the world!
