Happy Feet Review Summary

In 2005 the documentary March of the Penguins received much acclaim.  So it was no surprise that in 2006 the animated comedy Happy Feet came out with a splash.  Happy Feet stars a dancing penguin, named Mumble, who is the "oddball" in his penguin society.  Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings) voices Mumble, the star character.  Many other well-known stars lend their voices such as Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman and Robin Williams.  Reviewers are calling it a "a fun, uplifting family movie."  Although many adults did enjoy the film and all agree there are good lessons, some reviewers say "this film is more for the kids 10 and under as older kids might find it somewhat boring."  Regardless whether you watch it with them or not, the verdict is that young kids should enjoy Happy Feet.

Intro
Don't worry about the small backlash surrounding the animated film Happy Feet. Some people just want to ruin everyone else's fun. There's been criticism of this since it came out in the theatres that it was at times too preachy regarding environmental issues and had racial stereotyping in it.

This is definitely a movie for little kids, so beware if you are an adult watching it with your children. i thought it looked cute, took a chance and watched it. the songs in it are great and the storyline is good, but it wasn't as adult-worthy of the movies like shrek and finding nemo. there were some... review »

Happy Feet's Plot

Happy Feet is a movie about penguins. They communicate their love for one another by song and that is the method they use for choosing a mate. That is how Memphis and Norma Jean hooked up in the beginning of the movie. They had a little penguin named Mumble, who turned out to be an oddball. He not only looked different from all the other penguins, he couldn't carry a tune either. This led to him being outcast and taking to the road.

Mumble meets up with another species of penguins and makes friends with a little group. They hang out together but Mumble decides that while he is...

The movie "Happy Feet" is excellent! The soundtrack to this is awesome! Love the music and how it fit with the movie.

Movie has a great lesson to be learned. You can be different and still be beneficial to your community.

Poor Mumble, had no singing abilities, this is what emperor penguins were born to do,but he could clickity clickity, in otherwords dance! This quality made him different than others and his community kicks him out. Those meanie stuffy old elders! I loved the amigos he met that had confidence in him.

Love Robin Williams and his Lovelace character! A little over the top, but isn't...

With an awesome sound track and great dancing, this movie is a hit! I play it just to wear my little 18 months old daughter out, as soon as she sees the pretty penguins, and hears the music she starts dancing up a storm...fantastic movie

We were on an extended trip with my 5 year old grandson.  He had watched all the movies we had brought along...at least 6 or 7 times in the last five days.  He was difinitely ready for a change.   We went into a gas station and the movies were the first thing my grandson saw.  Of course he wanted one.  There were about 10 copies of Happy Feet in a prominate position on the rack.  Nothing else on the rack was worth watching, so we bought him one.  Our grandson loved it then and watched it over and over the first day.    He has watched it once or twice since the trip, but it is not one...

WOW!  What a fun, uplifting family movie "Happy Feet" is!  My two year old daughter loves to dance, so this movie is right up her alley.  The music is great and makes you want to get up and dance.  There are many good lessons taught: it's okay to be different, be yourself, perseverance, and the importance of conservation.  The penguins are adorable to watch.  Robin Williams' character voices are hysterical.  The animation is so realistic and well-done.  Great movie for any age; my husband and I enjoyed it just as much as our daughter did.  Be sure to watch the Bonus segment about the... review »

I was actually skeptical of Happy Feet at first.  We don't watch much tv in our house due to the lack of quality of most shows.  So, I didn't see previews.  Needless to say, one of my students brought it to school and asked if we could show it.  I took it and reviewed it.  I didn't find it preachy or boring.  With younger kids lots of music is a plus and this movie had lots of it.  It is a great movie to watch with your kids and have a discussion about responsiblity, prejudice or change.  My daughter enjoyed the tapping so much that for several weeks, she would do the "Happy Feet".

Great movie with great music.  Shows how friendship is so important to people and their course in life.  The scenery doesn't change much, so very young kids may get bored with it.  At the end, it becomes less action and more "conversation" - which may get boring as well.  It teaches that it's OK to be different and everything will work out somehow - even if it's not what is planned or the "norm."  Also teaches that it's OK to be a "male" and enjoy dancing - even tap dancing!! :)

The penguins in the movie sing except for Mumble.  Mumble finds his true talent in dancing as he feels the music.  As an adult he is ostracized by the flock and his parents and must start out on his own.  The adventures Mumble takes are exciting, scary and funny.

This movie teaches that being different does't mean that it's a bad thing. This film is more for the kids 10 and under as older kids might find it somewhat boring.

My 7yo son gives it two thumbs up!!

I didn't think I would like this film, but my kids wanted to see it and they over ruled me. Although the kids didn't get all the Elvis conncetions it was fun to watch the kids having a great time watching the movie. Get the movie, make some popcorn, and enjoy the movie with your family. Soon they will be gone and you will be left picking out your own movies to watch. Just think of all the good movies you will miss without your kids helping you find them.

Delightful children's film about discovering your own path in life, and overcoming obstacles.  I found it very cute, and upbeat.  The moral of the story did make for an interesting movie, but the character was so adorable I was constantly laughing.  Great for adults and children alike.  The music was great, and the characters were incredibly funny!  I love the unique ideas that they came up with for this penguin story.

My toddler son first viewed this around his second birthday and 10 months later STILL wants to watch it at least once daily. Even with the repetition, we still enjoy watching it with him. This has VERY HIGH rewatchability. He dances to it and loves it when we all sing along. It is educational and has a good moral message. I highly recommend this.
