Hancock Review Summary

Hancock is "not your typical superhero film." Will Smith grabs our attention here in the title role, as a superhero that is slovenly and a heavy drinker. "Different than any other superhero movie you've seen," he always saves the day, but it comes at a cost. Reviewers caution not to "go into it expecting Marvel" ... "expect Will Smith's humor, great action, special effects, and even a little heart." Most reviewers enjoyed the lack of a "cookie cutter plot," with Hancock fighting himself more than a supervillian. They also enjoyed Smith's costar, Jason Bateman, with their pairing providing most of the humor of the film, causing reviewers to makes comparisons to Spiderman 3. Of the minority that gave this film a negative review, they disliked the ending, as well as the violence. They warn that Hancock is not for children.

I absolutely love Will Smith. I have been watching him since he was the star of the 90's TV series, Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I knew then that he was going to be a huge star. I even like his music. He just has that "it" factor, as Simon Cowell from American Idol would say. When I saw the previews for...

Hancock was okay, but nothing Super.  There was a freshness in places, especially in the beginning of the movie, that was great.  A lot of super hero movies have fairly cookie cutter characters and a fairly cookie cutter plot.  Hancock varied from traditional superhero template.  First and foremost,...

Last year we started our family tradition of going out to the movies on the Fourth of July.  Our first year doing this we saw Transformers and we all loved it.  This year we chose Hancock and loved it!!

Will Smith stars as a superhero gone bad.  He does a great job in portraying Hancock!  This film is full of great one liners!  It's a film for older children up to adults.  My daughter is just shy of being 11 and liked it.  (Yes, it does have some profanity.)

About the movie:

As most of the reviews state, "there are heroes... there are superheroes... and then there's Hancock."  Hancock

I'm not a real huge fan of superhero films, but I do get a chance to see a few here and there, just based on the fact that my son is a huge fan of the genre. I'm also a Will Smith fan, so Hancock was a good film to see with my son.

From the very beginning of the film, you could tell Smith's Hancock was a different superhero. He was slovenly and if not an alcoholic, a very heavy drinker. When he flew, he'd fly with his bottle of bourbon, hit birds, and narrowly miss airplanes. When he appeared on the scene, he saved the day, but at a cost. He would cause millions and millions of dollars, to the extent...

Hancock, starring Will Smith, came out of nowhere for me.  I saw a few short previews throughout the past few weeks and then suddenly it's here!  All I really knew about it was that Will Smith had super human powers.  The film turned out to be really good, and different than any other super hero movie you've seen.  Don't go into it expecting marvel.  Instead, go into it expecting Will Smith's humor, great action and special effects, and even a little heart.

Hancock is a man who has super hero powers.  He can fly, lift cars, and bullets bounce right off him.  He spends his time drinking and...

Will Smith, Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman play in Hancock.

Plot:  When the public gives up and turns malicious on their local superhero who doesn't care about anything, Hancock (Smith), a public relations professional (Bateman) steps in to get Hancock back in the good graces of society and clean himself up.

What I thought:  Hancock is funny and heartwarming.  I like the actors in this movie and they make for some great characters, playing their part strong and most entertaining.  The storyline is fantastic and original as far as super-movies go.  It's refreshing to see a movie about a superhero...

Hancock tells the story of Earth's only known superbeing, who spends his time doing good deeds and heroic feats, and woe betide anyone who gets in his way - including the people he tries to help. He begins the film dressing like a slob, binging on whiskey, acting rudely, and generally causing more damage than he prevents. His prospects seem to turn when he saves the life of a grateful Public Relations guru with a heart of gold (Jason Bateman). Convincing Hancock that he needs to change his image, and covincing Hancock that he will enjoy it, provide the basis of most of the movie's enjoyment. Just... review »

Hancock was a movie that was both interesting and entertaining. It was not the kind of movie that, at first, I could see Will Smith playing. As time went on, I changed my mind. Will Smith is like Nicholas Cage. They both have to play in feel good and not so feel good parts. Will Smith plays an immortal named Hancock with amnesia. He is not a nice guy when he saves people and as a result, he is not liked. That is until he saves the life of Jason Bateman's character and that all changes.

Jason Bateman's character makes Hancock his life mission to change his image and he does it will style. In the...

Hancock is a great movie i give it and A+. The cast is nicely choosen the cast includes Will Smith, Charlize Theron, and Jason Bateman. The movie is an Action, Superhero movie which is great but we know that superhero movies are starting to become tottal repeats but i have to say that it is a change and it is truely a movie that you have to watch to understand that is great, Soo i would tell everyone that Hancock is the movie to watch.

HANDCOCK with Will Smith

First off, let me say I love Will Smith as an actor. I thought he played every part well and considered him one of the top of the line actors.

This is why I just can't believe he, Will Smith, accepted such a patethic movie like HANDCOCK.

The movie opens with the viewers seeing a run down city. Lots of people are coming and going. Then there is a scene where some bad guys robbed something and are trying to get away from the police. It involves a high speed chase on the freeway.

The movie bounces back to some homeless looking person, a real scrunge bag, sleeping. There are...

To be blunt I'm not really a big comic fan that's why when this trend of turning comic books into movies occured I wasnt one to jump on the bandwagon. X-men wasnt something I could fully get, Superman even though my husband is a huge fan took me two sittings to get through and Spiderman just got plain old. The movie that dragged me into sitting down and giving comic book movies another look was Sin City it had a feeling of real which I enjoyed. So when my husband stop at the movie section in the store picked it up and said "honey let's get this." I broke down and said yes.

 I love the Hancock...

First off let me say that I love Will Smith in basically any role.  Within the first few moments of the movie I didn't think my love would hold strong as I really didn't connect with the boozing, who gives a crap, woe is me guy he was portraying.

I really began to enjoy the movie once Jason Bateman and Smith got together.  The two extremists were like oil and vinegar but when mixed what an awesome result.  I began to suspect that there was something between Smith and Theron when he mentioned the movie tickets.

This is not a movie for people expecting the next superhero franchise.  This is...

I was pleasantly surprised by Hancock.  I expected a run of the mill superhero movie, but the cast turned it into a real movie.  The action and special effects were smooth and impressive, but I truly enjoyed the character of Hancock and the relationships that developed with the other characters.  Much in like Ironman, the insight and true chracter of the superhero played an important role in the development of the movie.  Hancock begins with a drunk superhero that wreaks much devastation as he "saves" the city from villans.  He is an outcast in society and the movie develops from that place. ... review »

I really liked Hancock, I was actually very suprised. I went into it thinging it would kind of a dumb Smith-flick. When it's funny, it's very funny. Will Smith does a great job in this summer flick. My one problem, is that the movie suffers from some of the same prolems towards the end that Jumper Did. They sacrifice the intelligence of the characters for the inclusion of a dramatic moment. You'll undestand what I mean when you see the ending. It's very obvious what needs to be done for everyone to be okay, and they don't do it, so there can be a dramtic moment, and finish. Oh well.
