At our wedding, we received a Gift Card to Macy's. There are plenty of things I want to buy at Macy's but I wanted to find something we actually needed. The coffee maker my husband had been using was very old and very old fashioned. The glass pot was tiny, and always dirty. It seemed like no matter how long it soaked, it was always stained. Plus, he tended to spill when he would pour because of the issue of handling a very hot glass pot when it is full.
That's what lead me to search for a Coffee Maker at Macy's. This one was $60 which was mostly covered by my Gift Card so I thought it was worth it. The old coffee maker my husband had was probably only $20. I'm glad we went with the more expensive one this time around.
The main selling point for this is that there is no glass pot. Instead, the coffee is stored right in the coffee maker when it is brewed. To get it out, just push your glass against the lever as you would in a restaurant when getting soda. The coffee comes out quickly and perfectly brewed. The best part is that you can pour a cup of coffee before the whole pot is done brewing! The coffee will continue being made in the machine. This means you can get a cup pretty quickly after you turn it on. This is also safer than the old coffee maker because you don't have to lift a heavy and hot glass pot. There is no potential to drop a whole pot on the floor, and less potential to burn yourself when pouring.
The unit also comes with a timer which my husband has used a few times. You can start the brewing before you even wake up! This feature is safer than it was with the old coffee maker because you don't have to worry about having the pot clean and in place because there is no pot. You can brew up to 12 cups with this coffee maker but it also has a feature to brew only 1-4 cups. If you don't have many coffee drinkers in the house, this can make it very easy for them to get a fresh cup of coffee without having to brew a whole pot.
I clean the unit simply by running it through a cycle with only water. The water heats up as it brews so the heat should kill any germs there are. It doesn't take as much cleaning as the old coffee maker because no one really touches any of the parts. Since you don't have to remove any parts to make the coffee, there really shouldn't be any hands on contact with the inside.
On the downside, I find it hard to tell how much brewed coffee is in there. You are supposed to be able to see the coffee in the meter on the top center of the unit, but I have a hard time with it. My husband was able to see it, so maybe it's just me :)
This coffee maker has been working well for many months and I expect it to work well for years to come. If you make a lot of coffee in your house, consider getting this machine to make it easier to pour your morning cup. Enjoy!!
