I was having problems with a cough and soar throat last month, and we had a pouch of the non-mentholated Halls Breezers in the house that I decided to try for the first time.  I was there when we purchased them for about two dollars, not really inclined to try them out because of the fruity flavor, but noting that I could put them to use should the opportunity arise.  Well after dealing with a scratchy and irritated throat for a few days, I decided to cave in and give the Halls Breezers a try.  Popping open the little pouch of 25 drops, I noted that they really resembled a piece of candy, and it seemed a little odd at first.

The taste of the Halls Breezers very much resembled candy as well, coming off as a thick strawberry taste, making me feel like I was having an Italian Soda with a lot of syrup mixed into it.  The taste wasn't bad mind you, but it did come on a little strong, and of course a lot fruity in this context.  Dissolving the drop in my mouth over the course of what seemed like 30 minutes at first was very soothing, as the pectin within the throat drops went into soothing my frustrated throat.  I have to admit that it did start working relatively quickly, and the soreness went away.  The trade-off, was that it left that syrupy feeling in my throat instead, that normally wouldn't be very pleasant by itself.

On the back of the Halls Breezers packaging, they instruct you to dissolve 1 or 2 drops (one at a time) slowly in your mouth, and repeat as needed over the course of a short time.  They are to be used to temporarily relieve symptoms associated with sore mouth and sore throat, minor discomforts, and irritated areas within the throat.  The main ingredient is pectin (an oral demulcent), and the Halls Breezers contain no real sugars, but clock in at 15 calories per drop.  A pretty straight-forward medicinal tool to say the least, but again one that should not be over-used or abused during use.

The end result of my use of the Halls Breezers was that my throat felt better, and much less strained from the dryness and coughing.  I will go back to the pouch if I feel the need to have a throat drop again in the near future, but I also have to point out that they aren't the best drops that I have had in my life.  The fruity flavoring could be a little too strong for some users, and it almost was for me, but it was worth it to get rid of that feeling my throat had been giving me prior to use.  From that standpoint the Halls Breezers were effective, and the fact that they didn't cost all that much plays into my recommendation to try these out if you are in to fruity candies and have been looking for something to help your strained throat.
