We borrowed this unit from a friend when our house unit when out. because of our window situation we had a unit in our dinning room window, which was too small to put this in. then we put this one in our office and at night up a fan to get the air flowing down to our bedroom. It worked great. I love the ability to control the tempature. You just set it wherever you want it, say 78, and then leave it and it turns on and off at will. You can set it to continue on, or keep the fan on at all times. I have had company stay in that room and they said it woke them up when it turned off and on so it probably isn't the best thing for a small room. It keeps everything near it very cool. Also the buttons are very easy to use and figure out. All of our company have been able to figure it out quickly and without question. We had no problem installing it. It took two people and we put tape around it to prevent leaking.

It's hard for me to assess the quietness for others. I expect A/Cs to make some noise, and the type of noise this one makes does not seem to me to be any louder than others. The ultra-quiet mode basically means that you don't hear the fan, but do hear the compressor (and the unit only operates on a low fan in this setting). A neighbor of mine has a rattling air conditioner and I actually wished my Haier was louder so it could drown it out more completely.The compressor is much more grating and loud than expected. I bought two of haier esad4066 units based on the consumer reports ratings of being pretty quiet, and because of the high energy efficiency. I installed the first one and sure, the fan can be set to very quiet, but the compressor is loud and very grating. None of my older window units of similar size are this loud and grating. I don't mind fan noise so much, but high-pitched, grating compressor noise is irritating. When I called for a return, the retailer suggested I try the 2nd unit in case of malfunction of the first. The 2nd unit is noticeably a bit quiter, but still more grating and loud than I can handle. I'm returning both.
