Our house has a 12x16 addition that the previous owners hadn't planned very well at all. They didn't have a ac/heat vent in it, I guess they were trying to avoid paying taxes on it. But it doesn't matter as it is included on the taxes anyway. So for the first summer we had to get a little help with the cooling part of it as we moved in here right smack dab in the middle of August!

How it Performs

It fit very nicely into the west window of the addition and I sealed around it with plywood and caulking, plugged it in and we waited to see how it worked. In about 45 minutes it had cooled it down from 98 degrees to a very comfortable 74 degrees. Not bad for a little ac and one thats name is not well known(at least not to me) I bought it because it was on sale and it was the only 110 unit they had left...lol

It just went through its second full summer and other than cleaning the filter once a week I have had no problems from it at all. I set the temp dial about mid way and it stays a respectable 74 to 76 degrees and doesn't complain. It is a little noisy as my computer chair is right in front of it, but nothing I can't handle. I take and spray it out after every season and store it in the garage for the next heat wave.

I also had one slight problem with the water draining out of it, well being the Redneck I am I fixed it real quick. Seems there is a high spot in there design and it was preventing some of the water from draining out (lower end model guess). So I grabbed my drill made me a hole on either side then took silicon and put on the bare metal to keep it from rusting. Problem solved and it still cools as it did before I fixed it...lol

Bottom Line

This little air conditioner does what it needs to do and keeps us and our birds comfortable all summer long. When I had the ac guy install the ac/heat register I had him check the freon in it and he said it was full and he even ran a voltage test on it to check the compressors pull and what not. He said it was right where it needed to be and we should have no problems from it at all. Now I am glad I bought it as we have had excellent service from it.

I don't know how I missed seeing this when it was first published. Excellent review, and we miss you, Ron.

We had one of these a few years ago. It didn't last long in my aviary--too much dust from feathers, but that was when I had over 200 birds!! Good review and I would recommend it for normal use :)
