My cats are messy eater. They knock food all over the place and were constantly getting it into their water bowl. As I could not move them any father apart, I felt like I was washing out the water bowl ever day. And since they were always so small, I had to refill them often too. The CatIt Drinking Fountain solved those problems.
First, any food that falls in gets pulled against the filter. They don't seem to be getting that much food into it which may be due to the fact that the sides are so much taller than their old bowl.
Second, I only have to add water ever few days. When I change out the filter, I fill the dome up with water as directed. However, because it is a bit difficult to sit the dome down properly on the base, I don't bother filling it that way again until it is time to change the filter. I just grab a full glass of water and pour it into the reservoir. I'm usually getting a glass for myself anyway so it is no big deal to give the cats some more water first. I also don't change the filter out as often as recommended. I'm already putting filtered water into the fountain, and with the smaller amount of food dropped in, it just doesn't seem as necessary.
Our two cats drink from the reserve and the water flowing over the dome. It just seems to depend on what type of mood they are in.
