Hagen Catit Drinking Fountain —
The Catit Drinking Fountain was a life saver for us!
Our elderly cat had always preferred running water to a bowl of still water, but as she got older, she had a hard time drinking out of the bowl - I don't think she could see the water very well. She took to pawing the water, which oftentimes left us with more mess and no water in the bowl!
The Catit really caught my attention, because it allows the cat(s) to either drink from the reservoir, or to lap the water running over the surface of the dome. I felt this item would be the best for our old lady, so I purchased it.
It worked out great! It holds quite a bit of water, for starters, and it is so quiet! The only time it makes noise is when it gets low on water - which is really a good indicator that you need to refill the dome. There's a filter on the edge of the outer reservoir that the water flows through - it does a great job of catching all of the food particles and hair that make their way into the water.
The cost of the fountain was reasonable, as is the cost of the filters. Of course, I comparison shop for the filters to try to get the best price, then I buy several packages at one time. There are 3 filters to a package.
Cleaning the Catit is easy - just follow the instructions. Filling the Catit is easy, too, if your tap water is good quality. Since we live out in the country and have quite a bit of iron in our water, I like to use bottled water, and it can be quite a challenge to pour the water into the refill area without spillage or a mess. Still, though, I've gotten good at it, and it's so very worth it.
After our old lady passed on, we put the Catit into storage... then got it back out after the arrival of our new cats. We now have two cats who enjoy drinking out of the Catit Drinking Fountain. It has been running for a couple of years now without issue.
