Habitat for Humanity is a hand-up--not a hand-out.  Applicants for Habitat homes are actually selected based on several criteria.  Once these applicants are approved and become future homeowners, they work out some of the cost of their home with "sweat equity"--they help to build their own home and the homes of other future Habitat homeowners, along with volunteers and covenant sponsor groups.  It provides the oneness of a true neighborhood - and love is in action from the foundation up!

If this program is available in your community, it is a wonderful opportunity to help a family in a lower income bracket to own their own home.  You will volunteer only your time and you will receive so much gratitude and sense of pride in return.

We work with Habitat through our church, both by money donation and by actual on-site work.  It is so much fun to work side-by-side with the new owners, who clearly are very grateful for everything and everyone.  Habitat does a good job screening potential beneficiaries, and many churches work together to provide necessary labor.  College students often help, too.  What a great feeling we get during and after our participation.  This is an excellent program and deserves everyone's support!!!
